Woman scalps her boyfriends ex-gf's corpse multiple times at open casket funeral

Shaynna Lauren Sims, who also goes by the name Shaynna Smith, allegedly cut the 38-year-old deceased woman’s head from her hairline to the tip of her nose in the attack at the Moore Funeral Homes’ Eastlawn Chapel in the city of Tulsa in Oklahoma. She also allegedly smeared her make-up and stole her shoes.

“The funeral director informed us that the deceased’s body was in a viewing room when some friends and family came to pay their respects,” Leland Ashley, a Tulsa Police Department spokesman told NBC News. “When they entered, they observed at least one female with their hands inside the casket.”
When the victim’s mother contacted police, Sims had fled. She was found inside the dead woman’s unit.

She had managed to get in “under the pretence that she was sent there to receive jewellery so that she could take it back and put it on the deceased for viewing,” Tulsa police Sgt. Shane Tuell told KJRH. Sims was found to be carrying a pair of scissors, a box cutter and a folding knife, which contained strands of the dead woman’s hair.

Funeral director John Wilson told Tulsa World that in his 30 years in the business he has never had a corpse being compromised.
“It’s really unfortunate that it happened,” Wilson said. Sims was charged on a misdemeanour complaint of illegal dissection and may face the more serious charge of vandalising a corpse. she was remained in jail with bail set at $20,000. She has refused to reveal to police why she carried out the attack but said Smith and the woman were ‘frenemies’ and Smith’s boyfriend used to date the woman.
