Mesmer pvp

Hey guys, I just recently started playing this game. I started as a ranger but quickly became interested in mesmers. Ive been to metabattle and they have some good guides. I do the 5v5 conquest battles and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the best burst spec for mesmers. I got blown up in about 5 seconds total from one and didn't get a chance to see what weapons he was using. Im currently using GS and sword/torch. It works pretty will but im thinking there is a better combo. Anyone have any insights or tips on Mesmer pvp in general? Or any videos you can direct me to.

Depends on your playstyle. Staff and GS or GS and sw/torch.
Dom I or II - VII
Duel I or IV or V (I use Desperate decoy but a lot of people hate it) - X
Illusion I or III - VII or VIII - XI or a combination of these, only XI is mandatory.

This is almost for sure the build he was running. You have the right weapon combo's maybe not the right gear / sigils and so on.

Edit: Quick note, avoid thieves, they will eat your face.

Pretty much kills anyone except staff ele and extreme bunker guardians (they tend to be the only ones to bring large amounts of cond cleanse while everyone else just brings one or 2). Turret eng were a problem but now since the nerf they are easy. If you are fighting good players 1vs1 you just have to space out your conditions but in the heat of battle everyone just melts.

But when condi builds, celestial builds and thieves plague pvp there's no harm in playing also mesmer cheesy stuff.

There isn't anything cheesy about that cond build. Unless you are calling all cond builds cheesy as this is the standard cond build for mesmer. You shatter - foe gets conditions. It's not like stealth spam theives or burst mesmer where they can 2 shot you.

I have one other question on how illusions work. When I shatter them, do they blow up right away where they are currently located? Or do they run at the target and blow up? So if theyre all spaced out, and I hit mind wrack, is it possible that only 1 or even none hits my target or will I always hit with all of them?

uhh I'm guessing you play WvW and not pvp, regardless everything about a mesmer is cheese.. the class is almost pure AI, only build I can respect at all is zerk shatter because some prefrontal cortex usage is required to play one well.

No I am talking about SPvP. The build isn't cheesy. It's straight up conditions. Like I said unless you are saying all cond builds are cheese there isn't anything cheese about this.

Cheese would be pre nerf turret eng. 2 of each turrets that never die on one point? You're fucked.

Every condi build is cheesy in my book, it's like the easy mode for gw2, but like I've said before there's no shame in playing one if you are constantly playing against other condi, celestial and thieves.

I would add interrupt mesmer to that.
