People are mistaking "somebody complained on the Internet about something I like" for "PC is taking over the universe."

Ah yes, the hallmark of nazis. Complaining on social media.

It hasn't gone too far, in fact it can be better. Avoiding racist and sexist jokes is not political correctness. That's not something people should do as an additional effort. That's the baseline in this era.

    What do you guys think?
If you find mother-in-law jokes and cracks about darkies amusing yes, there are still comedians that do that profitably to an ageing seaside audience. I think you'll find that stuff died away not because of political correctness, but because it was crap.

It's funny isn't it? It reminds me Steven Fry's quote which is nothing more than a whine.

Short answer; yes political correctness has gone about a light year too far.

Most of us already do this, its the few people on both sides of the spectrum that need to make a fuzz about every fucking thing.

It was going too far 20 years ago.

I think a lot of people today are just angry and looking to offended, they for some reason think just because they are offended they are in the right.

Maybe you have no sense of humour?

Back during ancient times comedians were allowed to say funny things and that was it, no swearing, no skewering of sacred cows, just be funny.

Then some comedians started to swear. This on comedian went to jail over the F word. But swearing made people laugh. How edgy they would say. George Carlin had his "seven words you weren't allowed to say on radio", he would say all seven and people would laugh. Very edgy, very out of control.

Then swear words got stale, comedians moved on to skewering sacred cows. Religion, race, sexual orientation, but eventually all that lost its edge too.

Not sure what subject comedians in the future will use to get edgy, maybe they'll have to go back to being funny.

Well... many of the comedy used to offend many people but there are still many programs and shows that still give darm/obscene humor, IMHO a good comedian will make good comedy with or without dark/obscene humor

Essentially this. People who scream about PC or PC going mad are usually those called out cause of a racist/homophobic/sexist/bigoted comments and views. A laugh and a joke is fine but most people have sensible boundaries.

Most people also should have a sense of humor.

I am sorry, but the word "racist" has lost its meaning long ago.
Friend of my always jokes around, regarding the racism term.

Lets say, two of my friends are eating dinner with me and I say to my friend, can you pass me the salt? he says, "omg thats racist" , you know, because I picked him. >.>.
Un-educated people always will have that stupid media mind set that will never disappear. I even stopped watching TV debates, because half of that time, people argue, call each other bigots, racists acting like children. How does this fixes anything? I hate left-wing political parties, because their mind set "oh everybody is equal" and my answer to their logic is, "don't compare me with the terrorists", because they are the low of the low and they don't deserve any sympathy if the return from the mid-east wars.

Ha it gone too far, or has it not gone far enough to appease racist, sexist, and homophobic folks who also think they should be protected, the IRONY is thick!

However when it comes to comedy, or comedy clubs, I think it's fair ground to say whatever the persons you pay to see are going to say, if you don't like it leave, or do a review before going, and don't show up.

Yes, and it was funny, until people forgot how to take a joke and laugh at themselves. So yeah, it has definitely gone too far.
