Should we be Demanding Race Diversity in our Sports?

    Poll question
Should we be demanding "Race Diversity" in our college and professional sports programs like many are for college admission and business hiring

I have read many post on the general off topic forums that diversity is what we should try to achieve even if it requires different standards for each race so to reach that desired diversity
so should we try to achieve diversity in our sports and try to accomplish that diversity the same way we are doing with college admissions and business hiring practices?

And yes I'm also including sports that are predominately white like Hockey

    No!
It should always be based solely on merit. 'Diversity' based positions/hiring choices are a terrible idea and go against the very principle of equality between races/genders/sexes/sexuality/etc.

I haven't seen every sports team roster across the different sports but as far as I can tell, we already have quite a diverse pool of players. Except maybe hockey.

Edit: Didn't notice you mentioning hockey.

Yeah sure (snicker). Have some women join the NFL and NBA. If they complain talk about the importance of diversity and how women are equal to men in every way.

    No.

Basketball and Football are probably 80% black. And rightfully so, forcing diversity over skill is idiotic. In the workplace and in sports, it just flat out should not happen.

Next they will be demanding every major professional sports league have a minimum number of women on their team, CUZ MUH EQUALITEE.

I would say the percentage of blacks in Basketball is higher then 80%

The poll feels like a smokescreen for other race related issues. Mainly how some white people feel their privilege is threatened by quotas or other diversity programs. Then trying to use entertainment professions as some false equivalency.

    Poll question for you:
Do minorities in sports or entertainment roles feel threatening to you?
Do minorities in higher education roles feel threatening to you?
Do minorities in positions of authority feel threatening to you?

However quotas actually do not promote the message that people supporting them would like them to.

I mean... technically blacks and whites have more muscle than asians on average and are taller.

But... no. Too much of a hassle.

if we are all equal then there is no need for racial preferences anywhere....in any profession
there is no big white racist boogy man refusing to hire minorities...oh you will say there is but no...no evidence

there are however....big scary racist boogy men terrified of what actual equality would show.
that equality itself might be nothing more than ideology

then what? start accepting that genetics are a real thing???
    blasphemy!

Is it a privilege that you score higher on college admission testing or is it a result of hard work and studying?

Why you worked hard and had the resources to succeed is in most part due to where you're born. That's the privilege. Uterine lottery.

You're A) stripping out tons of factors and B) talking bullshit.

But really, you know this whole "its not the environment" leads us to explicitly racist explanations for observed disparity right?

Two elementary schools in the same school district, one receives funding for an air conditioner, the other does not. The school which received the funding was a predominately White school, the second was predominately Latino. The reason why the second school didn't get the funding?

students at a predominantly Latino school would be better able to handle the heat than those at the other predominantly white campus.

It raises a valid point. Why is diversity in every other field a merit on its own but not in an aritifically competion?
