Call of Duty and World of Warcraft, Advertisement.

So before we start off, i know that those are 2 different games.
But both WoW and CoD have been around for like what, 10 years both?

But Call of Duty has seen some decline aswell if i am not mistaken? Just as WoW.
The difference with CoD is, it still is advertising alot, like ALOT.
On the Dutch busses, it even has call of duty advertisement, on monster energy drink there is CoD events.

Like, CoD still has ALOT of advertisement products, even though they are on decline ( or was, i have no clue)

But WoW seems to have almost given up on advertising, so far i am aware off.

They do a small commercial once a new expansion airs and even that is sometimes rare to see on TV.

So why does there still come positivity in advertising for CoD, but not for WoW?

Wow you completely missed all the marketing that WoD went through:

Public press release and live stream for the cinematic / launch date
    Lords of War series
    Azeroth Choppers
Huge frickin Gorehowl through a taxi in Times Square
    T.V. spots
    Forging Gorehowl youtube spot

Those just off the top of my head.

That stuff is minimal and compressed to certain areas. Taxi in timesquare? People who don't live there won't see it... I've never seen a WoW ad outside Gamestop where I live. Not counting a few TV commercials and what is seen online, I don't ever find Warcraft stuff around here in NC. No ads, no posters, nothing. The only times I see commercials for the game is around expansion launches.

COD has been around for 12 years, longer then WoW.

WoW only advertises when a new expansion is coming. I remember last fall I couldn't watch a football game without seeing at least two Warlords of Draenor commercials.

Honestly I wish they did do year-round promotions, so people don't just forget about the game.

Lol sure. Now let us try to blame the decline of WoW on a nonexistant 'lack' of advertisement of the most agressively advertised MMO in the world by a large margin.

Nevermind those 'Play WoW for free now' YouTube ads on the mainpage and videos.
Nevermind those 'Play WoW for free now' Google ads on every major casual tech website like CNet.
Nevermind those full page banner for WoD before and while it launched on pretty much every major gaming website.
Never mind all those TV spots.
Never mind those Timesquare WoD ads.
And all the stuff already mentioned in the thread.

That is like nothing! WoW is totally underadvertised.

And everyone here knows about it because we all live close to the timesquare. Right?
Not the as intended spread through word of mouth which has also no advertising effect at all if it hypothetically was true. Right?

Are they allowed to re-use old commercials? Or else they can just re-use them? they are fun and cheap to re-use.

Internet advertising, Time's Square, and one add with 10 seconds of broken up cinematic footage? Terrible advertising campaign...Unlike the Night Elf Mohawk adds and such. Good adds on real TV is a good campaign. Hipster and geeky internet stuff is not.

Real TV is, like, super important if you want grandmas to play your game. You know, like GC once said.

I think it's simply because COD has a HUGE player base compared to WOW. I saw a number of something like 100 million players across all the various platforms. COD is a one time buy and no subscription. It's an action movie and they are much easier to market.

Everyone with a computer and is slightly into gaming knows about WoW and if they want to play it or not. TV is where you get your new subs from people who don't have friends who play the game.
