Shhhh, let them believe that there is somebody at google sitting in a dark room listening to all of that audio.

Never mind the fact that all this software does is listen to you, it doesn't actually upload any of that audio to google; it gets interpreted by the processing software and turned into a search line. My cats listen to me, and I don't accuse them of corporate espionage.

But naaaah, why let actually understanding what the fuck the software actually does get in the way of freaking out about it and ripping your microphone from its jack. That's so much more dramatic and satisfying!

This makes me sad though. As I don't use many electronics minus my p.c. anywhere near daily, I was hoping somewhere some Google employee had the awful job of listening in on microphones on phones with Chrome installed.
Since 2/3 of the stored data my friends have on their phones is porn, the idea of playing microphone roulette at Google, and hoping and praying you weren't tapping into a mic with heavy breathing and fapping in the microphone, made me chuckle.

Actually they can do this with your cell phones too. smart phones and regular cell phones.
