You don't actually learn skills, you have them innately, all you need are the tools to be able to interact with the nodes, which you can buy at the professions area.

Hey thanks. Is divinity reach a professions area, you mean like the people who are professionals miners and such? And also, what are some other skills to learn besides mining?

You can do gathering without training anything, but you'll need tools like a mining pick, logging axe and harvesting sickle. You can learn two crafting disciplines, but are able to change them for a cost. Here's an article from the GW2 wiki about crafting: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Crafting

Lol, how long did you wait to make this post?

The game teaches you about gathering after your first few levels and gives you some basic tools.

Mining, foraging, and woodcutting are default "skills", you just need a tool to perform them.

As for crafting professions, you can "know" 2 at a time but you don't lose the levels you gained if you switch to a different crafting profession. So in theory, one character can max out all crafting professions but you have to pay each time you switch professions.

Just as aside, even though the game doesn't "teach" gathering until level 9, it is possible to buy, equip and use gathering tools straight away. I always buy them for my key runs, extra mats for more profit, and it feels like it helps the race to level 10 along.
When challenging a Kzin, a simple scream of rage is sufficient. You scream and you leap.

This would have helped me so much in my first few days xD Especially if you're unfamiliar with words like 'salvage'.
It took me 7 months to find out 'deposit all collectables' simply goes to your bank. I always thought it would delete them :'D Yay languages.

Thanks! Whats the harvesting sickle for? Is it for foraging? Cause when I mine nodes all I need is a mining pick right?

    Like this:

    And extra tip:

One more thing: If you have played other MMOs, you are familiar with having to share harvesting nodes or being annoyed when a group member runs off to harvest. GW2 is not like that. Everyone can see the node and every one can harvest it. The node refresh timer is personal. You also get a TON of experience for harvesting.

What gets annoying is when you're holding ctrl (enemies/objects) + alt (friendlies, incl npcs), and then push your ptt, which is del (so that it doesn't interfere with normal controls, and doesn't input things into chat)

ctrl and alt keys goes back to GW1, as it does the same thing there

Tell the truth, how many times have you done this?

I like CTRL, but wish there was also an option to have it as a toggle rather than needing to hold it.
