For the fel surge, it's the closest people, but it also can't target 5 melees or 5 range. Not quite sure on the exacts numbers, but it's a mix of both. It'll target like 2 or 3 of the closest range, and 2 or 3 of the closest melees.

That could explain the slightly-odd behaviour I notice sometime (rogues/dks not being targetted but ranged is). Thought it was just AMS/Cloak preventing them from being targets or some shit.
https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports...ability=186407 shows it may be as little as 1 ranged 4 melee though; second-to-last surge has it on MW monk (always counted as melee), hpally (ranged), rogue, warr, dk (all melee). Seeing it in other logs aswell (even have one where 4x melee and nobody else gets it, and can't find evidence of a mage blocking/paladin bubbling).

Dunno about cloak, but yes - AMS makes dks immune to the application of the debuff.

We have had it target 5 melee to be fair, we run quite a heavy melee setup on this boss.

What draco is saying is correct btw, with the exception of one thing.
Chains is targeted on anyone that is X amount of yards away from the boss, and these chains bounce to the closest targets from the person cast on, clump has nothing to do with it, it just targets anyone at that range (which is why you need your ranged close to the boss to avoid this behaviour) and then this chain will jump.

Our warlock kindly proved this and got all my melee chained while we had a clump of mages standing out and im sure if you look up any farm vods of our streamers you will find it.

xhul is kind of ehh, honestly, manno, archimonde and gorefiend to a smaller extent are the only "hard" bosses with the gear we have now.
