New laptop for friend help please. UK based.

    Hey there guys.

Need your help for a friend who's looking to buy a laptop (can be used).
    Budget: £700
Resolution: As good as it can get really
Games / Settings Desired: not really gaming
Any other intensive software or special things you do (Frequent video encoding, 3D modeling, etc): Video editing Go Pro footage, I think he uses Sony Vegas
    Country: UK England
Parts that can be reused: None
Do you need an OS? Ideally already installed on laptop
Do you need peripherals (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc)?: no

So my friend does downhill mountain biking and dirt jumping, and has come to me asking what's the best to aim for to edit his videos on. I'm guessing he'll be aiming for around 15" mark perhaps above.

I'm guessing there's main emphasis on the processor more than anything, I did spot

At his price range... but then not sure if it maybe better to go other routes like customise one on PC Specialist.

    Any suggestions?

Friendship is like peeing on yourself, everyone can see it, but only you get to feel the warmth it brings.

I would go PC Specialist route.

Simply because the laptops they offer are CLEVO, and they are in my experience fantastic and easily maintainable.

Try avoiding PC World like the plague, been in there multiple times and tried asking around as if I knew nothing of computers.
The responses I got .... well if I said terrible it would be a gross understatement.

Is a GPU important for video editing? Or can actually go ahead with a laptop that doesn't have one and focus that budget on the CPU and RAM?

Depends on the software being used. Some (including Sony Vegas) can offload work to the GPU, but whether this is faster depends on the CPU and GPU. The i7 laptop linked above doesn't seem that bad, in all honesty. It's not a gaming machine, but an i7-4720HQ is among the fastest mobile CPUs. The GPU on that is probably not going to render faster than the CPU, but it's also not going to hold it back. Only downside is low screen resolution.

At that price level, you're probably not going to get that much better.
