Horde Radeon 6950 fan is dying, can't find a replacement.

... I can barely find a picture on the 'net of the right bloody card, too.

So; HIS, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the traditional replaceable fans weren't good enough, and made the fan for this card essentially a huge plastic box (not the one in the pic, that's just for airflow - taking that case off reveals the plastic box/fan encompassing the heatsink, screwed into the metal plate that connects to the processor itself) and now the fan's started to seize up and I can't find a suitable replacement that doesn't cost £100 or more.

If anyone knows where I can get a suitable and not abhorrently-expensive fan, or entire aftermarket cooler to fit this weird card, I'd love to hear from you.

If you must insist on using a non-sanctioned sitting apparatus, please consider the tensile strength
of the materials present in the object in question in comparison to your own mass volumetric density.

In other words, stop breaking shit with your fat ass.

The ARCTIC custom heatsinks that tielknight linked to ARE AMAZING.

I've had firsthand experience. They need to do 3rd party graphics cards, I'd be all over their stuff!

Really? I see them in the first 3 rows, https://www.google.com/search?q=Rade...w=1280&bih=862

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/35...70-radeon-6950 < here was someone looking.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835186068 < Here's one.

Just look for an aftermarket that has Radeon 6950 Listed, all you really have to type in is Radeon 6950 cooler, and, there you go.

One thing you also could do, is contact the manufacturer and see if they'll maybe send you a replacement fan, sometimes they'll be nice and you might not have to pay anything, even if the warranty is up.

If your a bit strapped for cash you could always just grab a ~120mm case fan and zip-tie the sucker to it, at least until you can get the heatsink. Just pop-off the shroud and zip the fan on there to suck air through the heatsink and voila, you got a temporary cooler.

This probably would work; keep in mind that most GPU heatsink fans run with a higher CFM (airflow) and RPM (speed) than a case-fan, so the performance might match accordingly.

My XFX Radeon HD 6950's fan also seized. I picked up http://www.amazon.co.uk/ARTIC-Coolin.../dp/B005I9IM4E. It doesn't look like much, but it ran cooler and quieter than the stock fan, I was quite impressed. Only problem is it takes up two slots below the GPU (so three total counting the card), so if you have a smaller case or a lot of add-on cards installed, or Crossfire with only a one-slot gap between, it won't work.

EDIT: Whoops, didn't realize I was on page 4, sorry for the kinda-thread-necro. Still, this is a seriously inexpensive cooler that will keep the HD 6950 quite cool.
    Super casual.

    5 days isnt a necro.
I would agree on that cooler, or its big brother: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ARCTIC-Accel...ti+hd+6950+fan

That's a nice cooler. I'd think about that one if you're overclocking the 6950.

I ran the smaller cooler alongside an overclocked i5 in an old Pentium 4 case with only one 80mm rear fan and the temperatures were fine at stock clocks.
    Super casual.

A necro has to be at least 30 or 90 days, I forget the specific length of time. Pretty sure it's 90.

Also, kinda depends on who necros it. Like, if the OP necros it like "hey guys, it's working great!" or "hey guys, another question..." that's generally fine, I've found. It's when someone necros and is like OH YEAH THIS IS HOW YOU FIX IT or I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!

Generally, the problem was either fixed or if you have the same problem, make a new thread, link to the old one if need be, and that's that. :P You're fine after 5 days. XD
