Placebos can be dangerous too though. You don't give placebos for cancer, and there have been a few cases where doctors did so they could pocket the cash.

Generally speaking, the legality of 'medicine' isn't the issue here. It's the stupid bullshit people are willing to subject themselves to because they are poor, ill informed, and/or believe something bat shit crazy (usually it's a combination of the 3). I take the same issue with people who are fundamentally religious and then refuse to take their kids to the hospital for major problems because the treatment is 'against their religion' or some other such nonsense. Those kinds of parents should be charged with crimes.
