The US spends well over half it's budget on social security, medicare and medicaid. That's over $2 trillion per year. Of that 2 trillion, roughly $1 trillion is spend on medical care for the poor and elderly.

'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Medicare, medicaid. Unfortunately not universal healthcare.

For education, Pell grants and subsidized loans that have tiny interest if you pay back on their terms. Again, unfortunately doesn't cover everything.

Let's all ride the Gish gallop.

The USA has free healthcare if you're poor, or if you're old. It has subsidized education if you're poor, and there are thousands of different charity and non-profit organizations which will give you grant money to go to college on top of that.
