Romania. Prison commander condemned for crimes against Humanity.

    http://www.theguardian.com/world/201...ndru-visinescu

Alexandru Visineșcu, 88, faces charges of crimes against humanity for his role as the commander of the notorious Râmnicu Sărat prison for political prisoners.

Sitting quietly in a three-piece suit in the second row of the courtroom, he did not look like a man who was making history.

Visineșcu, who was commander at Râmnicu Sărat prison between 1956 and 1963, is said to have overseen an “extermination regime” and is accused of torture and having an involvement in the deaths of 12 political prisoners. He denies the charges.
Former communist prison commander, now 88 years old, is sentenced to 25 years in prison for crimes against Humanity. During his lead of the prison used to incarcerate political prisoners and critics of Ceasescu's regime, at least 12 people died as a result of the harsh prison conditions and torture.

He got what he deserved. Ceausescu and his regime killed thousands of innocent people.

Waste of time. The guy is 88 years old, even if he did what he did, putting him in prison now accomplishes nothing. He lived a long and happy life and he's likely to die anyway soon. Just a waste of taxpayers money on dumb lawsuits.

I'm not saying this lawsuit is dumb because this guy is innocent by the way, I'm saying this is dumb because charging and imprisoning him now is worth nothing after he had 88 years of fun. This should have been done in 1990, then it would have mattered.
