Afflic locks taking both soul link and GoS?

Learning lock and am A tad confused at why all the top players are picking both Soul link and then sacrificing their demon? wouldn't that make soul link void?

edit - nvm figured it out, it changes the actual wording to GoS to added hp only when soul link is chosen, I thought it was always on the talent. Poor hunters get nothing for Lone wolf in terms of talents they can no longer pick so I assumed it was the same here.

Since you made the hunter comparison, keep in mind as well that warlocks are allowed to summon and dismiss whichever pet they please at any point during the game. Just because you take sac doesn't mean you pet has to be dead. As you play more you'll get more comfortable knowing when to kill off your pet, run with the felpuppy, or pull out a blueberry.
