Optimal use of Maalus and the Soul Capacitor question.

Can anyone clarify on how to use both the legendary ring and the soul capacitor?

From what i've understood so far after lurking various websites, it's not optimal to have the soul capacitor absorb damage while maalus absorbs damage? Since the explosion done by the Soulcap won't count towards the absorption of the maalus ring? I mean like, it won't double up. If then, how to use them both?

The damage you deal while in a soul cap proc won't go into the ring explosion, but the soul eruption will. So essentially, you want your soul cap to explode before the ring effect expires.

Getting technical, there is a specific time remaining on your soul cap where it is beneficial to cancel your soul cap if your ring buff has <1 second remaining. Its different depending on your ring vs soul cap coefficients, but as a general basemark, if your soul cap effect has <4 seconds left and your ring effect has 1 sec left, you should cancel soul cap. If soul cap has more than 4 seconds, better to just let your ring explosion go into your soul cap.

It seems like raids should always have the activator of the ring be a melee with the highest level soul capacitor and the highest level ring, since the ring explosion can be absorbed and multiplied by soul capacitor.

Only your individual ring explosion damage can be absorbed by your own soul cap. This can happen no matter whether you activate the ring, or someone else activates it.

One thing that probably should be noted is that the 4 second rule/aggixx's equation work with the assumtion that you do constant dps, while we would be talking extremely specific situations (for example if your vanish is coming off cooldown with Spirit Shift having 4-3 seconds left and you would be pooling a bit before that) it's just not correct to cancel it 100% of the time.
