    Help Building a PC :D

    Hello ^_^-b

    ** Little Background **

I have been using my current computer for nearly 13 years now with a few upgrades along the way. it handled playing Wc3-WoW and quite a few other games as well, but now I think I'm due for an upgrade. I would appreciate any feedback about this new build ^-^

    ** The Build **

    pcpartpicker.com/p/4tH2CJ

** The Goal of the build **

To be able to play most games at 60 fps with decent settings.

Let me know what you think

-- And thank you kindly for reading thus far.

I truly don't mean to sound insulting, but it almost feels like you just picked the most expensive things available and called it at that. A system of effectively equal power could cost 1/3 the price. Are you really willing to drop 3 grand on a system? (The answer should be no >.>)

That said... We can cut out a lot without really losing any performance, and you can save a thousand bucks or so.

What 'other' games are you playing besides WoW?

Also going to move this to the build/upgrade subforum.
    Gaming: Dual Intel Pentium III Coppermine @ 1400mhz + Blue Orb | Asus CUV266-D | GeForce 2 Ti + ZF700-Cu | 1024mb Crucial PC-133 | Whistler Build 2267
    Media: Dual Intel Drake Xeon @ 600mhz | Intel Marlinspike MS440GX | Matrox G440 | 1024mb Crucial PC-133 @ 166mhz | Windows 2000 Pro

Get a better looking cooler if you have you're getting a case with side window , there's not a single day that i don't regret having an ugly noctua cooler in my Storm Stryker.
Consider getting an IPS monitor if you don't play fps games on very competitive levels.

    Where to start....?

-Why get a wired network adapter? There's no point - at all. The mobo has a network port.

-Why bother with Windows 7? You might as well get Windows 10.

-960GB SSD? C'mon... Get two 480 Intel SSDs and run a RAID 0. Same space, same liability, 33% faster speed.

-A sound card? Why? There's no point. Unless you've got golden ears, which I don't honestly even believe in, there's no benefit.

-If you're getting a Rampage V, just go for f*ck'n broke and get 32 GB of RAM. I recommend http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820233692 regardless of whether you get 16 or 32. They overclock so easily and look awesome.

-Get a 5820K and get liquid cooling (even if just for the CPU). The extra PCIe channels are not worth it. 16X x 16X is maybe 2 fps better than 8X x 8X with current architecture.

-I question the monitor. I recommend a Wasabi Mango 42" 4K. I have one and it looks AMAZING. Friggen perfect. Everything looks so good on it.

(My 5820 is at 4.375Ghz @ 1.3V and 32 GB of Dominator RAM @ 2800Mhz on my Rampage V extreme)

Edit: One other note, if you're going for broke with price, why not consider 2 titan X's. They really do destroy some 4K.

Wow ! I really appreciate the feedback you guys are giving me so far, and I know I have plenty to adjust remove and even add to it

In no way I'm trying to justify every pick I have on that list, but after using my current PC for so long and saving up for a much needed upgrade is similar to getting a new car. You want to get Porsche or a Ferrari splurging on the build, but I know that I want to tune it down to Nissan GT-R level of a sweet spot ^_^.

I should Clarify that the kind of games I want to play on this machine will be.. Pref 60fps Graphics on Ultra

    Starcraft 2
    Heroes of The Storm
    World of Warcraft
    Dota2
    Grand Theft Auto V
    The Witcher 3:Wild Hunt
    Shadows of Mordor

The list goes on, and some of them maybe even older titles because my PC couldn't handle them > .<

I will keep editing the parts for the build with feedback from the forums ^ -^

Hopefully I get this machine built before the end of this month

My suggestion, I left out the mouse and keyboard those two things are just personal preference imo. Could've gone cheaper, but tried to make the setup more aesthetically pleasing.

Because Titan X has almost no advantage over the 980ti in real world gaming and cost 350$ more give or take. Also you're not stuck with a reference cooler.

lmao 13 years??????? isnt that when first pentium 4 came out? . ppl here are saying right things btw.

    - - - Updated - - -

why does he need 42 inch screen?! i thing that ur samsung 28 is very cool. and i think he needs memory card because of the requirements. otherwise the sound can cause problems like for instance in bf3.

    - - - Updated - - -

buy windows 10 instead of 7. 10 is for people who loved 7.

Made a few more modifications to the build but still wondering if the i7-4790 CPU + z97 board will simply be better and cheaper option as well since DDR3 Ram and the rest of the build will all be massively cheaper and comparable performance if not even Exceeds the builds performance.

currently this is where I'm at

    pcpartpicker.com/p/2CsKmG

You gotta put yourself in my shoes when I got this build together. 13 years of shackled rage and hatred towards the potato PC have caused me to go massively overboard with the specs.

but I think the next Build today will be on a z97 board and see how much cheaper / performance gain or loss will end up with.

I'm committed to get this build done before this weekend and I will learn as much as you can offer me ^_^

and Thank you so very much for taking in the effort and time to give me your advice and feedback.

Hopefully I get the next build price cut in half and work on it from there. I'll keep yall posted

The main problem with being so indecisive with this build is mainly because going with the cheaper route means I get more bang for my buck, but hard to keep upgrading if I stay with DDR3 Ram / Z97 based Board. Also I Forgot to mention that I will be doing a lot of video editing / rendering for my future projects and most of the advice that I have gotten before I posted on this wonderful forum lead me to the X99 based board and hexacore + CPU's since they mentioned it will eat editing and rendering times like like I do with bacon and eggs xD.

but hey I'm still switching things around and the next build will be a Z97 board and see how that pans out ^_^.

I would never ever recommend a cheap korean brand...
This is the kind of thing you get.
    http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/..._universal.htm
They're poorly built, badly designed and it shows. The only bonus is they're cheap, but that's it. It's a constant trend with a lot of cheap korean brands. They're cheap but consistently mediocore to bad.

    That said...
To the OP, is there any reason why you are spending $5k on these? There's a lot of wasted money going in.
RAM for example does not scale all that well in Haswell CPUs if at all, Skylake is a different story.

RAID 0 isn't as useful as it sounds. Your performance gains is anywhere from 25-50% in synthetics but when talking about real world performance you're talking about maybe 1 second off loading screens. You're also taking the risk of having two potential failure points than one. If one fails the other's data is corrupted due to the nature of RAID 0.
If all you're doing a lot of professional where that performance will matter then it's a consideration, but otherwise no.

You really need to look at the features of what you're getting and decide if you truly need it other just having it for the sake of having it. Of course if that's your goal then sure, but it's not really a good use of money.

I have spent sometime with a new build more compromised, but should.. I think be able to run games with high settings / solid FPS

    pcpartpicker.com/p/XW64WZ

let me know what ya think ^_^

maybe I have swung too far to the other direction or maybe it's right in the middle of the sweet spot.

I'd get gtx 980ti, but a lot more practical than your last build.

I know this took quite a while, and again I really appreciate the feedback ^_^'

This is currently and hopefully the final Build

    pcpartpicker.com/p/HCytTW

    CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
    Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
    Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card
Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair 760W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM (64-bit)
Monitor: Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q 144Hz 27.0" Monitor

    Total: $2674.91

Thank you for the tip Bigvizz /wink ~_^

Pretty Much added a new GPU GTX 980 Ti / Nicer Full tower case for easier upgrades in the future / Splurged a little on a hot monitor ^_^

I know I can go lower if I ditch the screen, but it will actually be useful for this build and any build in the future until 4k is more main stream and cheaper with G-Sync / higher refresh rates at affordable prices that won't break the bank. since that is not the case for now and for pretty much a long while I will stick with the 2560x1440 Res + added bonus that I get to keep even higher FPS across the board with games for longer.

Let me know if this build is the Nissan GT-R SweetSpot or not

and as always Thank you all for reading and for all your feedback ^_^-b. I have learned quite a lot from these forums so definitely going to be lurking or hopefully posting more <3

Don't go with h100i, really, i still got it and won't be going back to it. Without spending another 50bucks on good fans you will be disapointed by the insane noise.
Mobo i got linked is a good if not better. If you want braging rights then you'd have to get an asus rog mobo, this is waste of money. Same goes with the psu.

So you save over 100bucks while making it better:

    CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

Keyboard: Logitech G910 Orion Spark Wired Gaming Keyboard
Mouse: Logitech G700s Wireless Laser Mouse

    Total: $2901.72

wee higher, but plenty future proof I think without going crazy

Ditched the **Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q 144Hz 27.0" Monitor** turns out it's pretty much a lemon atm with many customers with plenty of QC issues. to the point that there is an entire forums dedicated towards it's glitches and problems, which in turn made me switch to a cheaper monitor and beef up the rest of the build. Also this is a warning for if someone else thinking about that monitor as well.

I would like to take a moment to thank you all for the amazing support and feedback you have shared with me on this thread.

Upon approval I will start assembling the build and get some Pic's of it . hopefully after the weekend if everything goes well.

Thank you for reading so far ^_^-b
