    1440p or 144hz

Hey guys im thinking of upgrading my monitor. My budget only allows for me to get a 1440p monitor or a 1080p 144hz one.

I do video editing so the extra screen real estate on a 1440p will be absolutely awesome. But i do play games regularly as well and sometimes cs:go where I hear people going about how they cant go back to 60hz after going 144hz.

Which would you choose if you had to only pick one? Im looking at 27" screens btw. I dont think there are any 24" 1440p 144hz screens out there that would possibly fit my budget (if those even exist)?

yeah 1440p with 144hz isnt really that common yet, have never seen a 24" with it at least. there is 27" with both but it costs an arm and a leg. as for not going back to 60hz after experiencing 120-144 hz I can deffo sign under that. I don't know what you care most about, video editing or gaming. But if you've experienced 120hz+ yourself I think you would regret going for a 60hz one.

I kinda value both equally. Video editing is kind of my work so I do it quite a fair bit, but I would love 144hz while gaming as well, maybe I should just bite the bullet and get a 1440p / 144hz monitor and be done with it. I have more than enough cash I just don't feel like spending $1k on a monitor! GRRR

Hence I thought of getting either 1440p 60hz ($500+) or a 1080p 144hz ($600+), while still expensive is still 40-50% cheaper than getting a monitor that can do both 1440p 144hz

If you can get a 75hz or 75/85hz OC capable monitor, the feeling is already better than 60hz. I'm not gonna say that it's the same as having a 120hz but the difference from 60hz is still very noticeable. Way more than what you'd expect.

Currently using a 1440p monitor (27"), the picture quality is the same as 1080p on a 21" it just gives more space. :/ Would love to get a 144 monitor just to see what it feels like :P

Sorry to hijack, but I've got a question aswell. How are framedrops experienced on on a 120-144hz monitor, say going from 120 to 90? Does it feel equally crap as going from 60 to 40-30?

Yep, it's almost the same PPI (if not the exact same).

Nope. But tearing is still visible.

144hz is only worth it for CS:GO, nothing else

For gaming (especially FPS or anything that requires twitch reaction/smooth gameplay), you'll definitely want to get a 144Hz monitor. I have one, and there's no way I'm going back to a 60Hz one (unless some awesome new screen technology at 60Hz comes out that just blows the socks off of my monitor). 1080p gaming is still amazing when you can get 100+fps. Plus, turning up all the eye candy at 1080p still makes things look gorgeous. All the talk you hear about higher resolutions (but at lower framerates) is highly overrated. Generally, those people have never experienced gaming above 60fps. I personally can't understand the people who are currently gaming at 4K but with 30-40fps. That would drive me bonkers after seeing what 144Hz is like (and I've seen games played in 4K, and in my personal opinion, it's not worth it....not until we can easily game at 4K with 120-144Hz refresh rates).

Flat out wrong. True, 144Hz really shines in twitch-based/FPS games. But doing something as simple as quickly rotating the camera in an RPG, for example, still looks and feels WAY better on a 144Hz monitor. Start playing games with any kind of fast paced action, and you'll soon realize that 144Hz is the superior option. I've played the Witcher 3 (a game that a lot of people would argue doesn't need a 144Hz monitor) on both a 144Hz and 60Hz monitor (I have a dual monitor setup with one monitor of each), and the difference was night and day for me. There's a reason I game solely on the 144Hz one, and only use the 60Hz one for web browsing, video watching, etc.

That's why I'm stuck in between lol. I do video editing as a job so the 1440 would be beneficial as well. But I keep hearing all these good things about 144hz that I feel like I would greatly enjoy the fluidity as well.

Cant have both because my graphics card can't handle both 1440p and 144+ fps

1080p 144hz or 1440p 60hz is max unless I upgrade. Then I would be spending close to 1.5k for a new graphics card + 1440p / 144hz monitor which is more than I want to spend at the moment
