i have a gimp-pass for theme parks, so i can judge this from the standpoint of having no wait-times in line, so that isn't a factor.

Ive only ever been to Disney World. I prefer Universal Studios.

Disney World is huge. Its basically a city (and has a city attached to it). Its massive. 4 parks, 2 water parks, a downtown area, camp grounds, various hotels, the wild world of sports. The castle at Disneyland doesn't even look right.

In short, Disney World here is why.

Disneyland

Pros:
Its in California and has nice weather

Cons:
Its in California and you have to deal with Californians
Its tiny by theme park standards, even the castle is tiny
Little to no room for improvement
Tiny parking lot makes parking problematic
Expensive, I found it to be more expensive than Disney World
You see park workers all over the place taking out trash, picking up garbage, etc. It kind of kills the mood of the place

Disney World

Pros:
Great weather in winter months
Cheaper in the summer
Huge park, tons of room for improvements
Multiple nearby Disney Parks and hotels make vacationing here a better experience. You can see a different park per day of your vacation.
TONS of parking they also have a train that can pick you up from certain other hotels owned by Disney and its all connected between their other parks
plenty of hotels, motels and themed lodges in the area, you can even rent full sized homes for as low as $85 a day.
Underground tunnels for Disney workers allow them to do many things like pick up trash, move around in the park, restock stores, etc without you even seeing them

Cons:
Generally expensive like Disneyland but cheaper in the summer months
If you visit in the summer, it can get pretty hot/humid. Bring sunscreen

one time i was stuck on the "under the sea" ride (way before they renovated it for little mermaid) and this greasy dude let out a chemical weapon from his butthole and i thought i was going to die until they opened the hatch for fresh air.
