My first assumption. I mean, that implant was already gaining popularity ten years ago or so so I'd imagine its more commonplace now.

Also, a lot of doctors don't bother to mention it because it's usually an invisible infection in the case of guys.

That's not true at all. Will they protect you against every STD? No. Do they protect against a lot of them? Yes.
but do they protect against draenei disease?

80% seems way too high. I figured it'd be more like 30%.

    Two factors:
    1) Money.
    2) Because it's generally not a problem for men? It's generally not even a problem for women.

For HPV to be a real problem you generally have to be female, get infected with one of the high risk HPV strains, be one of the unlucky ~5% in which the infection creates cancer, then be unlucky enough to have it metastasise without detection or treatment. In Australia HPV is responsible for ~300 deaths per year and in the USA ~5-6000.

A single dose of Gardasil costs around $150. Typically it's a three dose treatment plan so you're looking at $450 per child not including physician fees. Discounting the anti-vaccine nutters, male children won't be vaccinated until it is deemed to be economically cost effective for the government to do so. From a public health perspective it would probably take the invention of a significantly cheaper vaccine or a significant increase in the costs associated with the long term treatment for infected.

On the private side of things it is probably the same reason that everybody doesn't get vaccinated for Cholera or Hepatitis or Meningitis... etc - we don't expect it to be a problem and don't want to pay for it as a result. Unfortunately, as is the case with common flu variants, even when it might make sense economically (as individuals [missed work days], to a business [missed work], for the public [public health care costs]) most people still don't vaccinate because we can't look past the short term costs when long term benefits are simply, potential benefits.

    TLDR: Money.

    Anyway - On Topic:

It is indeed cause for concern as we have seen an increase in the spread of preventable STDs and in turn an increase in the costs associated with testing and treating the infected and potentially infected partners. While the argument brought up above that younger people are forgoing safe sex because drugs like Levonorgestrel mean they don't need to worry about children is a good one it is irrelevant. The government, parents and heath practitioners simply need to continue on stressing the importance of condoms for the prevention of STDs and particularly for women, the importance of a regular check up.

Good thing there's an app for that.
I'd be far more worried about kids, most STD's can be cleared up in a matter of months with a course of treatment kids take a minimum of 16 years to be cleared up.....

Birth control improved, and makes em essentially almost obsolete from that aspect.
Now for the health issue... If you fuck around uncontrolled, then yes, you should wear em. But when you start a relationship with someone you get to know them too. If they don't sleep around there's no danger whatsoever. And if the former aspect is covered, then enjoy the freedom..

This isn't much of a problem. Africa not using birth control for (mainly) religious reasons is.

Being careful is one thing, but becoming paranoid is another.
The way you sound is like having unprotected sex almost automatically leads to an STD. Which isn't the case at all.
In fact, STDs are pretty much isolated to certain social groups, like drug addicts for example. Or people who lost their basic social behaviors regarding hygiene.
But the average person is not in a high danger of contamination with STD.

Its because in the last several decades they invented countless means for women to not need someone to wear a condom, such as pills, while with men they've not even bothered to find any other way, its either wear a rubber or get snipped.

I've noticed in a lot of gay porn now, there is less and less use of condoms, even in gay porn companies that promoted it years ago as a good thing.

It might also be due to the rise in medication against STDs too, like PrEP, that makes guys think its a none issue.

Though you can't blame someone for not liking it, no matter how much adverts and condom companies promote them as a great thing, nothings going to feel a good as without.

agreed, they really do. when they can invent a pill that prevents the spread of STDs, like how birth control pills work, then it would be great.

Don't get me wrong, you should definitely be using condoms with strangers to prevent STIs. On the other hand if it's someone you've known for while and they're on birth control, well...
Or people could just not screw everyone they meet and they wouldn't have to worry so much about STDs.
Me thinks Chromie has a whole lot of splaining to do!
