Yet another game that I won`t buy if true, & a firm that`ll never see a penny from me.

I know loads`ll still buy this & so firms like this`ll continue to do stupid stuff like this, which is a shame, because that way the firms won`t stop screwing folk over.

    Ah well...

The sentiment around this announcement as expressed in the thread OP, links and following conversation was that the current pre-order practice of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is 'anti-consumer'.

The validity of this sentiment is exactly and specifically what I am addressing by the forum function of quote and in-line posting. Not the feeling one has of the pre-order.

Something doesn't have to violate our rights to be shitty.
Perhaps. But it will never be of interest to me what others feel is 'shitty'. Claims of anti-consumerism is of concern and requires voracity in claim, however.

If this practice is anti-consumer, how so? Arguments in a wider context than this thread thus far seems to be rooted in emotion and 'tradition'- neither of which are valid basis for a intellectually honest assessment of the pre-order.

Fencers is our validity judge, folks. Form a single line and submit your criticisms of Square-Enix in an orderly fashion. Pay no attention to the bad analogies, willful ignorance, or misdirection. This is about intellectual honesty, damn it!

Sorry to let you know this has been going on for a long time now... Especially on steam many games have had the *more preorders unlock new stages of bonuses* shit.
Thing is tho, this is different. there are pre-order stages/tiers and you pick what bonus you want or in another way what bonuses you don't want INCLUDING a bonus mission.

Seems to me all pre-orders get the bonus mission once that tier is unlocked. It's the only item on that tier.

Though I forget who said it I I'm too lazy to go back and look, but I too am certain all tiers will be unlocked by SE regardless of how many pre-orders they actually get.

The point of a discussion is to vet the validity of our ideas and positions.

No one is saying one cannot critique Square-Enix. Again, the sentiment around this pre-order in the news is the practice is anti-consumer. Discussing that point is worthwhile.

It is okay if you feel you have presented a rational argument with evidence the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided pre-order is as a point of fact anti-consumer.

I have taken the position that sees no evidence of such existing in this pre-order. Whether that satisfies one personally is the burden of their argument.

"Anti-consumerism is concerned with the private actions of business corporations in pursuit of financial and economic goals at the expense of the public welfare"

I don't see this as anti-consumerism. You have the choice to pre order or not, to purchase or not. By pre ordering the game you are giving the dev a guaranteed buy and in return they are "rewarding" or "thanking" you for that purchase. If you do not pre order the game you are not entitled to these "rewards". You want the rewards then pre order. Otherwise you can wait. Its no different than blizz giving you a free level upgrade with your WOD purchase, or the "free" 10 decks with the latest hearthstone purchase. No one is being hurt by buying or not buying this game. I get it you don't like it. Suck it up (or pre order it), when you grow up your going to find life is full of things you won't like.

As someone who never preorders I can't honestly say why I don't more often. I rarely read or watch a review for a game before I purchase it. If I want the game I will buy it (I rarely read movie reviews as well). If it sucks o well, cross it off as a meaningless bad choice. I had no intention of preordering this game even though I am planning on buying it. I might pre order it now just to stick it to all these butt hurt people.

Also with a game this big we will get plenty of early reviews (if thats your thing). So preorder, get the goodies, then cancel if the reviews are bad. Otherwise enjoy the game you were going to spend money on anyway.

I'm a huge Deus Ex fan (even picked up The Fall's PC port after reading Icarus Effect), went to huge lengths to do 100% achievements in one run (with save/reload for required kill options) when DXHR DC was released, and still enjoy playing the original.

It's disappointing for me to see how SquareEnix are handling the release of Mankind Divided, and as I did with my other all-time-favourite series (Mass Effect) I will be voting with my wallet and neither pre-ordering nor purchasing M/D at release.

I think companies like SquareEnix need to actually start polling existing customers to see how to handle new releases.

Honestly, I'll probably still be neck-deep in Fallout 4 when M/D releases. I fully expect that I'll enjoy Mankind Divided when I get around to buying it, but it's relegated to a Steam-sale purchase.

Yeah, I don't see this as anti-consumer either. Most of the pre-order stuff is useless shit, as are most of the DLCs released. People are just getting angry because other people who are willing to risk the pre-order are getting useless shit they can't get their hands on post-launch.

And also you can't wait four days? Grow up, my nephew can't wait for four days when anticipating something and he is eight. And also with the four day advantage, the people who wait will be able to know if it's any good or not early on from user reviews.

    The fans spoke. Squeenix listened.

    Suck it.
Hah well at least they shut it down instead of trying to stubbornly do it anyways. The good news is all of the potential pre order things are given to anyone that pre-orders. Still doubt I'm going to preorder this game because of all the BS though.

For a second I read the url as Deu Sex, like some weird foreign porn site.

Nice though that they changed their mind.

Good news, but as cynical i am, it's a move to save face instead of a change of heart, a pre-order scheme like that should never been conceived, but at least Square Enix passes as a good guy and they ensure more pre-orders now.

Still, i will wait for the inevitable "Director's Cut, GOTY, Everything included" edition a year or more after the release, on sale!

Good move, but I'm still going to wait for the complete edition.
