How attached are you to your smart phone and how important has it become to you?

Alright with Apple just announcing it's newest additions the iPhone family, how important would you say YOUR smart phone is to you.

I know a lot of people say they don't watch TV or whatever, which almost seems unheard of What else might have taken TV's place, I suppose it could be the PC and people spending more time online, but I wonder, is the PC going to way of the TV SOON.

So the question is what is the thing people really live without, and more importantly for this thread the question is, has your smartphone become the thing you must have, and most importantly, HOW important do would you say your smartphone is to you?

I'm the kind of person who wouldn't mind losing their phone. My PC on the other hand is a different story. I really don't watch TV. Most of anything I want to watch can be done on my PC. Also TV is full of crap.

Not at all. If I didn't need a cell phone for emergency contact with family (or for just regular emergencies), I wouldn't even own one at all. As far as smartphones specifically, they pretty much suck at everything aside from the convenience factor, which is a non issue for me.

    Run on sentence much?
How to tell if somebody learned World Geography in school or from SNL:
"GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?
PALIN: They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska."
SNL: Can't be Diomede Islands, say her backyard instead.

It's become surprisingly useful and I use it heavily for studying purposes and other conveniences, but no way is it replacing a PC for me any time soon.

Full-size keyboard and mouse alone are a major gap in input convenience. The smaller screen and poor sound quality are also major issues.

BUT Do you imagine that changing over the next say 3 to 5years, and what kind of things do you do that makes your Desktop a priority?

All I really use my phone for is the occasional facebook/internet check, texting, calling, and hearthstone. So uh...I'd lose two of those without a smart phone. Not much I guess.

Ok, so let say you bought the New Ipad Pro, and they came out with a workable keyboard, that along with your own personal cloud storage, where you can stop and start anywhere any time from your Ipad Pro, or maybe some other kind of device, what else would you need your PC for?

I use my phone for calling people texting them and taking pictures. Occasionally I use the internet to find out some useful information if I am not home or near a computer.

Well right now I'm tethering it to my PC so it's very very much attached.

Apart from that, though.... umm I use it all the time to listen to music while driving, and I send maybe 5 messages a day and take calls on it...

I only have normal cell phone, for calls and sms and not a second pc. I also do hate touch screens so not really considering switching.

I could really do without. It has some nice uses, but really for my day-to-day I don't need 75% of what it offers.
Human progress isn't measured by industry. It's measured by the value you place on a life.

    Just, be kind.

If I had to rate technology I own on a value from 1 to 10:

TV: 2 - I realistically only use it as a larger screen for group entertainment. I don't honestly need mine.

Computer: 8 - I use it as my primary media system. Games, television shows, news, and all of that. I would be sad if I had no access to a computer but I could live without.

Smartphone: 5 - It can do some or most of what a PC does. The interface is a little less user friendly and the computing power is a little less. If I can't use my computer then this can do some of what the computer could do. I'd probably be okay with a regular cellphone like I used to have 2 years ago.

I use my phone to listen to podcasts on my drive to work, to read the news at work and to make barely 1 phone call a day. I didn't have a phone for about 2 months lasr year and the only people it inconvenienced was my parents/grandparents who didn't know how else to contact me.

I don't have a smart phone. Just a basic cell phone. I am however, addicted to my PC.

I mainly use it to surf the internet, I prefer using it over my PC which is kinda scary.

I only use it for whatsapp (which i could do on my computer now that i think of it), and for watching porn when i can't get to my computer. Not a huge fan of smartphones tbh since the batteries die so quickly compared to the older phones.

Probably not. My smart phone is plenty fast and does a lot of stuff for me but touch screens suck for everything. In fact I used to use my phone more often before because I could at least play my emulators using the qwerty keyboard, but now I gotta use a dumb Apple phone wanna be because that's all they sell, and my old qwerty keyboard phones are slow as piss for KitKat or Lollipop.

I have to wonder why people need the fastest freakin phone when you're limited to a touch screen. GIVE ME BACK QWERTY KEYBOARDS FOR MY PHONES ALREADY!

and what kind of things do you do that makes your Desktop a priority?
Better question is, what don't I do with my desktop PC?

    Gaming
    Movie watching
    Photoshop
    printing
typing documents <- types without needing to look at keyboard or screen
faxing with my old 56k modem
Real web browsing. Not the crap done on tablets and smart phones

I also have a HTPC hooked up to my TV that acts as a media server. The kind that you can log in through Android and watch movies I have stored locally on the drive, or stream cable or ATSC broadcast TV from the capture card I threw in it. An under utilized feature I assure you. Oh and it also hosts a Minecraft server.
