Hey man, you lived it.
11 months DEP & guaranteed for an aviation A-school on enlistment, and "tested up" to E-4 although anyone in the Navy or USCG would call this "graduating" because that's how acquiring a rating differs in those services from the Army/USMC/USAF but hey, what a life.
*DEP also counts for time in rating as an SR/FR (or SA/FA if you were an Eagle Scout/Cadet/etc), not SN/FN/AN but it's cool.

You are assuming current structure. When I enlisted only rocks joined without a confirmed A school. And AV A was 9 months, not 6. You could not test for E-4 until after you passed A school.

Again you are hung up on current rules. At the time, E-3 was easy to get as a Cadet. I am sorry you cannot understand that the rules have changed over the years.
What years did you serve, exactly? You've alluded to the "time period" multiple times without specificity.
I don't know what current rules you think I'm hung up on. You don't have any idea when I served, what branch I served in, or what my rating/MOS was. lol The fact of the matter is that it's been quite a long time since I was in the military, and the reason the "rules" today seem so similar is because they haven't changed in the last ~30 years.
Me too, and beyond. So then... haha
If nothing else I really like the idea of a military where A-schools are guaranteed for ratings that are at 120% capacity.

What can I say? You know firsthand how many fuckups there are. lol
Yes I'm aware of electricians getting lumped into the AT rating. I guess you're implying that rating merger happened jussssssssssst right as you were making it out of A-school so like I said, what I life.
I would have assumed that you got the impression that I might have lived it first hand by now, but I appreciate you really boiling it down to the basics for me. Anyway, moral of the thread Charlie Don't Surf & Gurls Don't Fite. fin.
I went to A-school in Elizabeth City, because I was in the other floaty service. I figured that you had already picked up on that when I mentioned you not having to qualify as aircrew in the Navy, but I guess not. Anyway, our rating merger didn't happen until much later, same reasons, though.
Just curious, and I mean humor me here, but when specifically in the "1990's, generally" did you test up to E-4?

It really shouldn't be surprising that there are some men in the world that are worse off genetically and physically (and especially mentally) than these female specimens in the military.
I've always been an advocate of not letting averages snuff out individualism when it comes to feats of strength and endurance. The individual being capable is much more important than the average individual being capable.
This kind of drivel right here brings me back to a far, far right winged video who's title was "Why men are better at women in anything and everything ever." It's plainly sexism, regardless if they only reach the bottom 5%. I'd want to see the actual numbers, because bottom 5% could be as slim of a difference as a few inches in an endurance run. Percentages are wildly meaningless unless we are given a scope as to what the "peak" of male conditioning and compare it directly to the peak of female conditioning. Biology dictates females will generally be lower, but darwinism dictates that there will be females that are anomalies.

There are no worse scum in this world than fascists, rebels and political hypocrites.
Donald Trump is only like Hitler because of the fact he's losing this war on all fronts.
Apparently condemning a fascist ideology is the same as being fascist. And who the fuck are you to say I can't be fascist against fascist ideologies?
If merit was the only dividing factor in the human race, then everyone on Earth would be pretty damn equal.
haha that reminds when i was in the USAF and they said "We want to develop Airmen to all have a common theme like the USMC's every marine is a rifleman" I died laughing and asked what are they gonna do teach us all how to fly and say every Airmen is a pilot?

Because the typical jarhead is obviously the best of the best solider in the world...
If women can pass the minimum standard, why shouldn't they be let in?
Most of the time that would have been the case in the Navy for Av Techs, but the timing was just right. Also didn't hurt they were beginning to get rid of the plane I was working on. Plus, I changed over to a rating that has never been more than 85% manned as far as I know, the security clearance is a killer.

I think it would have been "Every Airman is a golfer".
