though I have to say there's many pop songs I enjoy very much, and there's many rap songs I really like so.. I can't decide on a single genre

I personally listen to many types of music, since I realized a great song isn't reserved for a single type/genre.
It's mostly a combination of metal, dubstep, pop, rock, house... sometimes rap or epic music.

Metal is pretty mainstream and quite a lot of gamers listen to it. It's not like it's an "underrated underground collection of musical genres".

I guess I just grew up around people listening to crap music. Also found that many parents of those people also listened to, imo, bad music.
My parents however left me CDs of Deep Purple and Santana.

This sentence is problematic, as "metal" includes dozens of sub-genres. Some are pretty mainstream (like Metallica) and some I doubt that many people here know about or would even enjoy (like Dimmu Borgir for example, or Morbid Angel if we go to the more extreme stuff).

Isn't Dimmu Borgir and Morbid Angel "mainstream" already? I mean, they are Lady Gaga and Rihanna of an extreme metal. No?
