What spec are you?
I think the best spec for proving grounds ATM is Destro btw so change to that if your Demo (It got nerfed real bad so its not worth it) or Afflic (Since its on a time limit Dots take way too long)

I did mine as Destruction. Cataclysm is OP for Proving Grounds. It will one-shot groups of mobs. If you clear a wave quickly enough, you can start to pre-cast it before the next wave so Cataclysm lands right when they spawn. The cooldown is such that it only works every other wave or so, so you have to pick and choose when to use it. Beyond that, use Shadowfury and the Fellhunter/Doomguard to interrupt healers.

Its one of the level 100 talants

Proving grounds scale by you're item level. Take off gear that isn't epic and have a set bonus and/or gem socket. Epic gear has a higher stat budget per point of item level and set bonuses/gem sockets aren't counted in the set bonus.

You need to kill the mobs in each wave before the timer expires.

What are you getting stuck on exactly? Lock Silver is straight forward DPS. Plan your interrupts. That's honestly about it. There's no trick or catch that you have to overcome. Work on your rotation.
