not nitpicking at all here. those are not at all 'horror' movies.

and my answer is none of them are good. no horror movie is even worth the time to watch them. they are all the same stupid jump scare crap which usually doesn't scare me, and even if it does it still isn't entertaining.

No, actually, not all horror movies are jump scares. A TON of them are not, in fact, and making a generalization like that kinda makes you sound like a moron, so you may wanna avoid doing so in the future?

Hard to pick a single favorite, but Phantasm is the first that comes to mind. I also love the older 1950s stuff like House of Wax.

Hmmm, favorite? I've seen too many that are really bad but I know one that actually stands above the rest which would be The Conjuring. One of the best horror movies i've seen in a long time and it would definitely be among my favorites.

Honorable mentions would be Chucky and Dead Silence, but I would only put those on the list for the scare factor. Seen them when I was younger and they scared the piss out of me.

OP actually mentions some good ones. I loved the Mist... That ending is probably one of the biggest and best ending in a horror movie.

I love all the classics personally, Nightmare on Elmstreet, Evil Dead (original obviously), Friday 13, Halloween, The Thing, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Alien,, those sort of things.

I also love cheesy horror like Childsplay, Stephen King's IT, Leprechaun, and Critters.

Recent modern faves are probably From Dusk Till Dawn, Trick 'r 'Treat (2007) and Human Centipede, the Conjuring, Jeepers Creepers, Scream and The Descent

That's actually a pretty solid choice, I think it's the only movie adaptation of video games that's done well for a change.

The Conjuring is one of the scariest fucking movies I have ever witnessed. That they managed that amount of pure terror with nary a drop of blood was amazing. Too bad the sequel sucked =(

[edit for self-correction] Annabelle was a prequel not a sequel. Sill sucked in comparison =(

The Conjuring cites many horror classics, well done though. Annabelle is really bad.

On Topic: I find it really hard to name good contemporary horror movies, since i think it´s one of the most stagnant genres. I like horror films, but most of them are just an endless repetition of clichés. All of the movies that really scared me are at least 20 years old.

Edit: I liked "Mirrors", don´t know the korean original though. And the first "Decent" was quite okay.

I liked the first one too. It had some issues but I admired the style and deliberate aim to create terror. Solid flick.

The Evil Dead franchise (Minus the remake. No Ash=No want!) stand head and shoulders above all for me, simply because it's the only horror franchise (that I'm aware of) where the protagonist not only survives (Through the sequels!), but fights back and wins!

Really? You never watched like... Halloween? Horror movies where the protagonist fights back and survives are the genre's norm, not that I don't share your love of Bruce Campbell.
