We tend to shit allover "our" veterans here. We even have a history doing it... It really sucks.

Even though soldiers tend to find in mostly the wrong wars these days, I still respect them for doing it. So /salute to you all

Ever been to a funeral where its a weird mixture of happy that you knew the guy and your time with them, but you are also remembering that they are gone now and its seldom.

    Its kinda like those.

Which is odd, because I am describing something right across the stream, an Irish wake. Not in traditional practice, but in idea.

Happy funeral! So glad you are alive...even if your wife isn't.

Is it a charity thing? We have poppies (made of paper and plastic) that you pay however much for and the money goes to the veteran associations.

    Thanks man!

I will be doing a shot (or two) tonight for all my buds.

Did some last night too for the Marine Corps Birthday. I think I look pretty good for being 240.

to be fair, most of the people that should actually be considered veterans are those that fought in non one-sided wars ...

and even then, werent most of the soldiers back then forced to enlist? its like... enlist or go to jail... :/

mmmm i wonder how many escaped punishment from war crimes and lived happily ever after....

So your company didn't buy the badges and give them out? Do people profit off of them, or are they made for free? I hope it's the latter if it isn't a charity thing.

I have sympathy for those who are drafted into service against their will, no question about it.

And I fully support programs addressing veterans' physical and mental health, post-service job placement, and other societal reintegration issues.

On the other hand, to volunteer for a job wherein you may well be called upon to kill people is a mindset I can't possibly understand.

No war, ever, no matter what. I will NOT kill.

" It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing more than murder."

" Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind."

God bless all who have suffered in war, soldier and civilian alike.

While killing is terrible there are times when it's justified.

Would agree that Nazi Germany needed to be stopped by force (death)?

Would you kill someone trying to kill you or your family?

People get so wrapped up about Iraq and afghanistan that they forget the non combat shut we do you.

In my case, no. No use of force, ever.

For me personally, non-violent civil disobedience is the only way to go.

I forget where I heard this quote, I think it was on a tv show:

" I dislike death, but there are things that I dislike more than death. So, there are some circumstances in which I would be willing to die."

For me, I would be willing to die rather than ever raise my hand in violence.

I realize that's a difficult choice, and I try hard not to judge those who can't bring themselves to make that choice.
