Indeed happy veterans day. My older brother is an captain in the army rangers. Been over there couple of times. Never has had a soldier under his command wounded or killed.

We must be thankful for what our military men and women do for our nation.

Veterans Day is a day to be proud of those who risk it all for their family and country.

May all of them have a fantastic day. You have earned it.

" I dislike death, but there are things that I dislike more than death. So, there are some circumstances in which I would be willing to die."

For me, I would be willing to die rather than ever raise my hand in violence.

I realize that's a difficult choice, and I try hard not to judge those who can't bring themselves to make that choice.
That's just crazy to me. More power to you but man I couldn't go that route. Someone tries to kill my boys or wife and it'll be the last thing they do.

I fully understand the disgust towards violence. But sometimes violence is the only way to solve a situation.

I'm always willing to die but in defense of others.

Then again I've seen the nastiest parts of the human condition. I think that plays a big part in my view on this.

Either way I wish all you the best!

You shouldn't feel sorry for me. My principles dictate absolute non-violence.

There's plenty I'd die for. There is absolutely nothing I would hurt or kill for, ever.

    Do you have kids?

If not I think your opinion on this will change when you do have some. At least when it comes to hurt or kill in defense of them.

So you would let somebody kill or commit serious harm to your loved ones?

Violence is necessary. I am trying to not to judge you, but I feel it's just an unwise philosophy. If somebody knows you won't fight back, you subject yourself to all sorts of misery, torment, and pain.

I don't consider myself very violent, but if somebody was trying to bring absolute harm to me or somebody I care about, you best be sure I would exercise absolute harm in return.

To each their own. I can respect you holding to your values, even if I don't agree.

I stand with twoninemarine of anyone tried to hurt my wife and daughter, I'd rip their arms off and beat them to death with them

No, I don't have children AFAIK. A man can never be absolutely 100% sure that he's NEVER fathered a child, but I have been responsible about birth control since age 14.
It's been my choice because it's the best and easiest thing you can do for the environment: don't replace yourself. Fewer polluters, less pollution.

    Yep. Exactly.

Props to you Berengil on sticking to your beliefs. I just really hope no one is relying on you for protection sometime down the road ):

    And that's fair.

Although as a Dad of two boys (3 and 5) they are by far the greatest thing I've ever done. I highly recommend it. You'll never love anything more in your entire life.

That's part of the cost for remaining absolutely non-guilty of violence. As I said, I'd die for plenty of things. I'll never harm anyone ever.

    I hear ya.

Every time I see my daughter smile it makes my heart melt.

I guess there will always be protectors and the protected in this world.

I'm not really a sentimental guy as far as love and family and so forth, so it's not something I've ever desired to experience. But it sounds like your sons will have an attentive and caring father. And thank God for that. Avoids sooooo many societal problems later on.

Well hopefully you can live a peaceful life and never be put into a tragic position in which you might consider changing your principles.

I do mean that, by the way. It is very sad when somebody is brought down, so to speak, due to unfortunate occurrences.

That's certainly my hope. I've seen sooooo many kids who have shitty parents. Definitely trying to avoid that. Lol

that cant be right.. if you do that, you might go to jail and never see them again.

surely soldiers are trained to restrict or disable a person

Actually military are taught to kill. Trying to disable a person with a wounding shot or something isn't a realistic expectation.

Obviously after Tony rips their arms off, he should accept he has wounded them, and not continue to beat them to death. Just tourniquet the stumps and provide first aid until the police get there.

I dunno if i could ever truely "celebrate" this day. I mean ive dated a vet and friends with several, and my uncle was in Vietnam. However, every time someone says 'happy vets day", I get memories of my grandfather crying as he tlaked about his youngest brother before he got killed in Okinawa. So... uh... glad ya'll are still alive?

For us it's more a day to celebrate our friends we served with. We of course remember our buds who died but then again we remember them every single day.

It's more a day to honor those who have stood up to protect our nation.

I know I personally don't go around cheering and hooting and hollering. It's definitely a solemn day. Not as solemn as Memorial Day for me personally but a day of remembrance none-the-less.

Most vets I know try to have some fun on veterans day, maybe catch up with old friends from the service, or just cut loose.

We save most of our solemnity for memorial day, as that's truly a day for the dead.

I'm not actually going out for "free" food today because I don't like how holidays are exploited for commercialisation and I don't like how some fellow vets behave as if business owe us something, I have yet to meet a vet that joined the service For free food once a year.
