Does Maalus user get more benefit?

I'm posting this here since it's specific to two rogues -- one of our rogues was trying to figure out why I was beating him and discovered, that for some reason, my maalus is hitting more targets than his at times, giving me approx 1 million more damage from it than him. I am the one who pops the ring, is it just a trick of the meters and logs, or does the ring popper get some benefit?

    Here's a link to the logs: http://www.askmrrobot.com/wow/combat...rt/161#v=0,d=0

Or for those who prefer WCL:

I chose a 1:45 min wipe so there was only one use of the ring and neither of us died during the ring portion of the fight. The other rogue (who does indeed have 2 fewer hits from the ring than me) is Turismon.

Overkill damage isn't counted by default, you need to turn it on in WCL. Your ring hit bombs but since they have so little health not everyone gets counted in the ring's damage because "their" part of the explosion was overkill.

I assume that's what's going on here since I found the same issue in my guilds Mythic Iskar and when I went into the logs I saw it was because our ring was overkilling the Phantasmal Resonance by a large amount and only some people were being included.

That would make sense -- so the ring popper does get the benefit of applying their damage to targets who are killed by it and others aren't. Those whose rings are counted as pure overkill definitely get robbed since it doesn't roll their damage into the boss (or targets not killed) it seems.
