    Carry-on Luggage

I will be traveling soon and American Airlines carry-on luggage policy is dimensions of 9x14x22. Problem is trying to find a decent carry-on that will fit those dimensions. Trip is only for a few days so I do not need anything more than a carry-on and do not want to check the piece of luggage.

Any one have experience with AA and their luggage policy that can recommend a decent piece of luggage that will be able to be a carry-on?

    Thanks.

Already taking a back pack for my laptop. 2 backpacks are awkward. Besides this is a business trip and a carry-on is better for arranging clothes neatly for travel.

Thanks. I will be strongly considering this.

I work for United, but AA uses similar aircraft at my airport.

If you have a leg going through a small airport, chances are you will be put on a small plane like an ERJ 145 or a CRJ 700, (or, god forbid, a CRJ 200.) If you get one of those, chances are high that even a small roller suitcase will be gate checked, even the bag Tziva linked. Things with wheels are frequently gate checked because the wheels are known to cause the overhead bins to break (I saw no fewer than 3 ERJ 145s go down for maintenance because of this this summer alone. People try to jam their bags in where there is no space and ignorantly break things.)

So what I would do is put all breakables and valuables in your backpack, and put clothes in the carry-on, so if they do insist on gate checking it for you, nothing will be broken.

However, if gate-checked, you'll pick it up at the gate at your next stop, rather than at the carousel at your final destination. When you board a bigger plane, they'll likely let you take it with you.

If you pack a duffle, there's a higher chance you can stuff it in an overhead even on a smaller plane, if you don't mind the risk of your things getting a bit squished. But personally, I'd just get a small roller bag and let it be gate-checked if I get put on a small plane.

One the way down the plane is a Boeing 737-800
One the way back the plane is a Airbus A321

I use an army surplus bag. Little bigger than a backpack. This has been my trusty backpack for all my travels over the last 9 years. Never had a problem with it, I always recommend.

Ah, then you aren't gatechecking anything . . . unless you're the last guy on the plane

    Then go for Tziva's recommendation.
