    Evga 600b psu

The EVGA 600B is on sale for $20. I'm building a system for a friend (4690K, Z97, 950, 8gb, SSD, etc), and I was going to wait for Black Friday, or for the XFX 550 to go on sale for $25.. Should I just pick this up now? I'm not super familiar with EVGA PSUs, but I see them getting recommended more these days as budget units.

The EVGA 600B is built by HEC and is generally known as a massive pile of shit brand.

However the 500B/600B seem to get average reviews from Jonnyguru and he doesn't have THAT much bad to say about it.
Personally I wouldn't touch it due to HEC being the OEM and having experience with them.

But I defer to Jonnyguru on this one.

It is the 500W platform but the same build is used between 500 and 600.

Some more info from TechPowerUp, both worth a read.

Yeah. I see nothing but "Pretty good" reviews, but I'm also leery of HEC as well. I have mixed feelings and on one hand, $20 is an amazing price, but I also refuse to sell mediocre parts to people.
