    Building my first desktop

On pcpartpicker and having no idea what I'm doing, I came up with this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/4JDc8d

    CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 67.8 CFM Fluid Dynamic Bearing CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card
Case: Corsair 500R White ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Antec EarthWatts Green 650W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM (64-bit)
    Monitor: Sceptre E225W-1920 60Hz 22.0" Monitor

With the operating system and monitor, the price is up to $1174.87. I'd like to bring that closer to an even 1k if possible, but don't know where to make the cuts (so many acronyms and initialisms). The memory could probably be changed to 2x4GB, and I'm wondering how necessary the optical drive is. I would like to stick with a GTX 970, but is my CPU overkill? I've been hearing that WoW is all about dat CPU.

It'll be strictly a gaming desktop, for games such as (don't judge) Sanctum, Planetside 2, Skyrim, WoW, Overwatch, Diablo, and Minecraft. I don't plan on playing major stuff like Fallout or Battlefield.

    Please and thank you.

    Thanks. Switched to:
Cooler: Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 960 4GB Video Card

    New total is $978.96

Anyone know if the Power Supply is overkill? Or underkill? And is the Case of a proper size? Again, I know bugger all.

Get a better monitor thats for sure, hdd and keep the 970 or go R9 390. You can save 16 bucks by getting the evga 970 superclocked which is higher clocked than the asus but it will be a little more loud. Up to you whats more important:
