Wanting to build a new computer but I'm a noob.

Hi, I'm looking to get a new computer and figured I would try my hand at building one. I have really no clue what I'm doing and haven't put together a computer since like 12 years ago in a highschool class. I am really out of the loop when it comes to hardware and resolutions and things.

Budget: 2,500 CAD (I have some wiggle room)

Resolution: 1080 (1920 x 1080) (seems to be what other people are putting down.

Games / Settings Desired: I would like WoW on max settings for sure. I play mostly blizzard games at this stage in my life but I will play the odd game that looks like fun.

Any other intensive software or special things you do (Frequent video encoding, 3D modeling, etc): Not really anything that I can think of. I do some photoshop stuff for my parent's company (mostly menu boards so nothing really intensive) or if theres a fun project that comes up.

    Country: Canada

Parts that can be reused: I told my brother he can have my old computer.

Do you need an OS?: Yes, preferably windows 10

Do you need peripherals (e.g. monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc)?: No

I saw this build by Kostattoo in another thread:

    Thoughts?

Also how do I purchase the items once I have a build? Do I just follow the links and buy each part? Sorry this is just a little new to me.

The 5820k is a great value for the money, but x99 is geared more toward enthusiasts as a whole, and the six cores would be wasted on what you want to do. Not to mention that it runs a lower clock speed out of the box, which means you have to overclock it to really reach its potential.

For your purposes, you'll be just as well off with an i5-6600k and a mid-level Z170 motherboard like the Asus Z170-A or MSI Z170A Krait Gaming. Also, the WD Black hard drive in that build is again more of an enthusiast line. If you really what that, fine, but for general usage you'll be just as well off spending less for a Blue.

Yeah, a 4790/70k would do pretty well instead. a 390 card might end up costing much more in the end, and the nvidia 970 series has been dropping pretty rapidly in price. also direct x 12 seems to allow you to SLI with different manufacturers and cards, which is very interesting. Might wanna get a higher output power supply if you wanna do that though.

The build you got from the other thread was for a person doing loads of pro work, rendering etc. Also the i7 6700k atm in US isn't worth its money cause you get an X99 platform thus another reason for the build you saw. So what you got at your last post is spot on.

You could also put a 390X with your budget which would make it VERY comfortable for 1080p now and open the possibility to play nicely at 1440P later in the future.

To be perfectly honest, there's absolutely no telling. This time of year various sales come and go daily. My advice would be to just buy things as you find them at a price you like. Sure it may drop another $20 on Monday, but then again it may not.

With his budget he could get SLI 980ti's; that doesn't make it a worthwhile investment for somebody who plays WoW and Starcraft and says he plays at 1080p "because that's what everybody else puts down." Just because he can spend $2500 doesn't mean that he needs to.
