New SSD and old HHD is freezing Windows when they're both connected

Been trying to solve this problem for the past hour, and can't find an answer that works from Googling, so maybe someone here has an idea.

Got a SSD today. Disconnected my old HHD while I installed Windows and drivers on the new SSD. Everything was fine, and the SSD works perfectly. Connected my old HHD again and in bios switched so that it boots up the SSD first before the HHD. However after I get thru the login screen in Windows, everything freezes pretty much. It only happens when both the HHD and SSD are connected.

If the SSD is connected by just itself, it's fine. When I have both connected and boot from the HHD first, it's fine. It's just that when both are connected and I'm booting from the SSD there's an issue. My power supply is more then enough and my HHD works fine as well by itself. I have them both connected to SATA 3 ports on my Mobo.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Have you already tried setting the new SSD partition as "Active" and removing the "Active" from the HDD?
