The word "clash" assumes a certain comparability of the clashed objects. ISIS, Al Qaeda and such are hardly comparable to NATO and the first world in general, both in terms of power and ideological sanity. The Cold War was a clash of civilizations: democracy and capitalism versus totalitarianism and pseudo-communism - the latter failed miserably, but stood its ground for the time being. The war against Middle Eastern terrorist groups is hardly a clash, more like a cleaning.
Also, there is definitely no "war against Islam". There is a war against almost negligible minority of Islam followers that took their religion to the absurd extreme. Islam itself is as good a religion as any, it is just religious perverts that the war is waged on.
