Because they sound the same and we think in sounds, not written. At least, I have a "voice" in my head rather than a "hand" writting my thoughts.

People who learn spoken English first often mistype words that sound the similar but are spelled (slightly) differently.
Autocorrect makes it worse.
some people are older, haven't been to school in over 20 years, are use to talking to people in person and often don't give a shit if they mixed up you're and your or they're, there, their.
1) There is a lot of retards.
2) Retards can't comprehend the difference between "your" and "you're" etc.
= people keep using wrong words
If the forums are representative of the general population, chances are that most people here have 12 years of education and that's it for them. They therefore cannot or do not like to read well written articles or books. Confusing acronyms for words that sound similar is going to be common given those standards. I ignore it in any gaming forum, I also speak informally when out of office. But at work where there is no room for miscommunication, there should be zero tolerance.

Because they're pretty dumb, that's why. Move along.
At least you can blame idiocy or ignorance for spelling mistakes. For a "Grammar Nazi" most of the time they're absolutely intrusive and insulting. You can say you aren't, but in the end you are correcting someone's grammar mistakes without any real benefit at all. It's all negative feedback anyways.

Text talk generation.
I've seen too many unable to write a sentence legibly via pen and paper. But damn, they can sure tweet!
I agree. It's annoying when people can't get grammar and spelling right.

Ur right to question this.
My native language is german. There are also many words that are commonly 'mispelled'. I think, many people are just to lazy to write right. Usually it's not faster. Or they use 'denglish', because it's cooler. But if everybody understands it better, is another question.
A friend of mine always tiped really fast, but with many typing and write errors. Sometimes it was not easy to read and to understand. I told her once: "To read your writing is like listening to a drunk's slurred speach'. After that, she made an effort to write 'soberly'.
