    Unholy Vs. Frost

Just wondering, my frost DK is 731, and im wondering, if possible/ when does unholy spec over take frost in dps? and is it just better for AoE or is there chances to be better in single target?

Unholy beats out Frost on almost all metrics on almost all fights (the notable exception being Hellfire Assault on Mythic) according to aggregate logs. Notice that even at lower item levels (~700), Unholy still wins. Now, because this is based off of real world data, it could be that skilled players are just playing Unholy while less skilled players play Frost, skewing the statistics. It could also be that 2h Frost players bring down the average (though probably not a whole lot of 2h Frost doing later mythic bosses). Sims show Frost and Unholy being close on single target fights, but with fight lengths going down, Unholy BoS becomes better and better.

Have to wonder what those statistics would look like without BoS Unholy, as many people dislike the playstyle.

Defile Unholy or NP Unholy vs DW Frost is something I'd be more interested in seeing.

Frost is the garbage spec of WOW. It has shit mechanics and because of that it does shit damage. It has been this way since 4.1, with the possible exception that it was decent during SoO. The first Alpha build for Legion looked somewhat promising with the addition of the two talents/artifact traits that helped with frost's mechanics problems, but Blizzard quickly realized that frost MIGHT not be absolute shit with that alpha build so they fixed it and removed the improvements. Back to being the gutter spec of WOW.

If you play a DPS DK and want to raid, you basically have to play unholy if you don't want to actively bring your raid team down. If you don't like DoTs, pets, and bascially being a warlock in plate, well you are SOL and should probably pick a different class. Although it is fun parsing in the 95th percentile and still being the lowest DPS in the raid.

All of those cool frost themed "fantasy" changes to the spec won't mean anything because it will still perform so poorly that all you will hear from your guild and everyone else is "why don't you play unholy"?

I am curious as to which metrics is making Unholy so much better than Frost. I may be missing something here, but yes, when I look at logs/rankings, they are dominated by Unholy over Frost. Then again, those are very short fight times. Looking at longer fight times, they are *much* more even on most fights.

Unholy can use BoS, Frost can't. Beyond that the specs are fairly close atm during normal kill times like you say. Unholy can actually fulfil a specialist roll though during progress by rolling Necrotic Plague on fights like Gorefiend and Xhul where as Frost just does what Frost does on every fight....namely hit HB and FS until shit falls over.
