So who is getting one? And what pc setup do you plan to use with it. I have gtx780, so I plan to upgrade when next gen nvidia cards come out. I also preordered my oculus rift, should ship by June!

I'm honestly not sure what I'd use it for. I don't really play FPS's (they make me motion sick), and I'm not sure what other types of games would be good in VR.
Also, $600 is an investment I really have to want in order to get me to pay for it.

'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
Had an early dev kit, sold it after FaceBook took over. Will avoid it like I avoid facebook.com from now on. (shrug)
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

This, more or less. I am sort of sympathetic towards HTC Vive simply because I trust Valve more than I do Facebook, but will see how it goes. Unlikely to get either one right away. I might even skip the first generation if there are any indications the second one is coming in no longer than a year.

I really want one, and I hope that it turns out to be a staple for modern gaming, just like a monitor. Realistically however, I'm not yet sure that'll happen, and they're asking €699 in Europe, which is well over $700, so before I make that investment, I want to be sure it'll really be worth it. So I'll wait for the outcome. I'd probably have one already had they stuck with their initial projection of $350 for the rift.

I saw someone use it with GTA V as they rode around on a motorcycle and that was honestly pretty neat.
It didn't work so well for normal on foot game play, but for riding around as sort of a simulation it was cool.
Racing games will probably work very well with this tech.
I'm getting one, although I'm not sure I'm necessarily getting the first iteration. Probably will though, been waiting for VR tech since I was a little girl.
If would like one when they can work together with Zbrush. I hate Zbrushes unintuitive UI.
VRclay sounds like a very thin and featureless sculping tool.
nah, it sounds nice, but practicalities make it just seem a short term fad to me.
Sure its immersive for some things like flight sims, or for virtual tourism, and of course pornography.
But for general use gaming.....I have 3 screens because I play on one, have web sites open on another, and use the third for watching somethign or video chat. Cant do that with VR headset on.
Plus I like to be able to see around me, my peripherals, to be able to interact with people, and to reach for my drink without the certainty of knocking it all over my expensive gaming keyboard or Hotus etc.
Nah, its a very expensive fad, I'll pass.

I'll just you know, ride around on my actual motorcycle....
but yeah, some specialist genres may be nice. Ones like racing and flying as they involve sitting still in a cockpit and so looking round is natural, not sure it will really work with MMOs for instance.
Already have a dev kit 2, resolution upgrade to CV1 isn't worth the pricetag IMO, if the price drops to around $400-$450 or so (and I'm sure it will eventually), or the CV2 comes out and is even better, then I will upgrade, but until then, no.
A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don’t have one, you’ll probably never need one again.
take it to a track every couple of weeks, knee down round corners at 80mph+....
and I have a motorcross bike i do jumps on though not as often as its much further to a decent track for that from where I am.
No I dont commit armed robberies on it.....but the point was I dont really think the VR can possibly offer a decent experience even close to reality. When you can feel the track through your knee pads, have the ground racing round a few ft from your head, feel the pull of the bike in the corner, and the rush of power as you come out of the turn......having a screen 2" from your eyes as you sit at your desk is not really going to add all that much in my opinion.
Flight games, I can see it, much like specific controllers like a hotus setup, but thats a niche market really.
I just dont see it really developing into the mainstream given the practicalities of it.
