Obese: Is this considered a hateful word?

I have read certain posts and articles talking about the obesity problem several of the world's countries have, and I couldn't help noticing that when someone speaks about "obese" people, or states facts that show that an alarming increase in obesity has happened in recent decades, people get offended.

Is the term or word "Obese" a hateful word? Or is it just a scientific word to describe a person well overweight?

How do you view this word in a world that sympathizes with the problem, rather than addressing the problem and helping to find a fix to the problem? I reference the idea that obese is beautiful, and these obese models popping up everywhere celebrating their problem.

No, it isn't a hateful word, it is a clinical term for a very dangerous and deadly disease.

Not really fishing for anything, just want to have a discussion on the word: "Obese" and weather or not some people are offended by its use. Because in most cases it is what it is, a medical term used to describe a person well overweight.

People aren't born obese, they get that way through the bad lifestyle choices they make.

Actually it's recognized as a disease and you can be born with it, but obese is a clinical definition.

There are a lot of obese people who weren't born obese. Most of them in fact.

Well, people ARE born white and black. (at least by the cultural definition of what it means to be white and black)

Obesity concerns weight, which can change. Ever seen the biggest loser?

skin color is a matter of genetic makeup of the parents, and is passed down to the child.

Gay is another subject completely, and its not genetically passed to a child. It is learned and trained over time, but lets not go down that road.

"Obese" is a medical term. But then, so were "moron," "idiot" and "imbecile" at one time.

Also, medical conditions, depression, addictions, and other things out of the control of the person. But you're right, there are some people who make bad lifestyle choices. Like all smokers. Most people who drink alcohol. Most people who do extreme sports. Pretty much all American football players. Pretty much all people who compete in high level MMA. And so on and so forth.

No it is a descriptive term used for people who weigh way beyond what they should to be considered a healthy person.

I would consider it neither. The word obese is too broad. There's a big difference between someone who's on the low end of the obesity scale and someone who weighs 500 lbs.

    Fat disposition is genetic.

Magical fat that just appears on people's frames does not.

So what's the latest term being used?
Internet forums are more for circlejerking (patting each other on the back) than actual discussion (exchange and analysis of information and points of view). Took me long enough to realise ...

Very good point and rebuttal, I has not considered that context.

Their genetic makeup determines the color of their skin. Yes we all know they are born white, but genetically they are whatever their parents are.
