Well, people ARE born white and black. (at least by the cultural definition of what it means to be white and black)
Obesity concerns weight, which can change. Ever seen the biggest loser?
Some can depending on what the root problem is, like thyroid condition, or say the way the brain is hardwired for food like other kinds of addiction, if kids or people develop habits early and over a period a time the brain and body develop conditions for which there is almost no going back, just treatment.

Thyroid problems generally cause gland deformation and swelling, so you can actually TELL who has a Thyroid problem. Also, being fat can cause Thyroid problems.

Also no, there is no excuse to be obsese, I eat constantly yet I have the common sense to exercise.

Obese isn't a hateful word, no, but people like to overuse words when inappropriate.

Some people call chubby folks obese. Like even curvy gets called obese.

  5. #25
Obese is a terminology that describes a (almost always preventable) condition. We have to be able to use descriptors without it being considered hateful. "Lardass" is hateful. "Obese" isn't.

I can already tell this thread is going to lead to no constructive debates so I will just say one thing: if you think obesity is something you're merely born with and doomed to have, try living in tribal Africa.

Actually you can't unless you are a doctor, with medical facts and their personal information in your hand, otherwise you are making a fucking uneducated guess unless proven otherwise, like being psychic.

That's not true in the least, a lot of children are born big and it steadily gets worse, it is called having a very low metabolism, the other thing that contributes to it is believe it or not it is less expensive to eat unhealthy than healthy which with this economy every cent counts.

As for your original post no it isn't, it's better than a lot of words out there.

There is relatively few overweight people who are overweight solely because of a genetic condition, and their existence shouldn't excuse obesity in everyone else.

In the short of it all? No, it's not. Then again, retarded wasn't meant as an insult. It's how people use it. Even saying "oh, THOSE people" can be considered hateful because of the tone or intended usage of the words.

Ie: it's how people use the word, not the word itself.
"Why of course the people don't want war…. But, after all… it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

No that goes down to the fact that a cheeseburger costs 99 cents and a salad costs 5 bucks
