"Americans, get out of our waters!"

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cornwall-35423469

Thoughts? We have a strong tradition in the UK of many sport and recreation (in part or wholly)related rescue services being fully volunteer based and charity supported and only calling upon EMS/Police/Military for specialist equipment and the final stage of any call that requires a trip to a hospital.

What would happen in the US were these dudes to be frequently calling on the coast guard or having any ship having to divert to them when in distress?

They should simply start fining them, they are 71 years old and are obviously not sprightly enough to make such a demanding trip every month.

There's not really a lot of information in the article and your OP is difficult to understand - could you clarify the situation a bit?

This article has more information http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cornwall-35420983

Basically two old blokes are trying to sail from Norway to the US, they don't appear to be very good at it.

Seems like they're calling on the rescue services for very minor problems. Only ones that sounds like an issue to me is the engine not working and them tipping their boat and starting a fire. The rest, well you are adamant about performing such hobbies at that age so you should handle it.

The thing is I know a tonne of people who man Mountain Rescue Teams who are in their later years. The reason why MRTs and the RNLI are volunteer based is those volunteers come from those sports and activities that might one dasy require their services. A lot of the calls MRT teams attend are upland regions where a day walker experiences health problems, slips, or fails to recognise how easy you can get hypothermia on our soggy little land mass . The fallen climber scenario is actually quite rare in comparison to the tourist who bit off more than they can chew. Nobody bats an eyelid at this and we would never stop or discourage anyone (citizen or visitor) from experiencing our hills or our waters based on age. But people will get pissed off when it is the same unprepared persons that require people to go out in dangerous conditions to render aid.

The thing that pissed me off about this was the "it's a government department[and so free]" attitude; false! but apart from that the lack of consideration as to putting others in harms way, is really very shitty as well as the repeat nature of their requiring aid. They have been getting in trouble at times when the weather has been expected to be exceptionally bad and only the most hardy and experienced would be venturing out.

It's not "Americans, get out of our waters." It's "Hey you two assholes, get out of our waters."

They must be in some seriously shittly little jalopy if they've had to call for help 9 times in 7 months. If they're that unprepared, they shouldn't make the journey.

Edit: Holy shit, how can they run aground so many times?

'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Sounds like they are costing them a fortune in having to rescue them. They clearly do not have any idea what they are doing and shouldn't be attempting this at all.

ffs, our coastguard is volunatry, and should not be wasting its time on these retards. Give them a helping hand to international waters then forget about the fuckers.

If the people suck that much at sailing they should probably not be allowed near any sea vessel.

Also it seems justified since the man in the video said they are costing the volunteers a fortune on rescue operations.

I think if they want to sail to the US they'd be better off booking a cabin on a cruise ship because it definitely sounds like they aren't cut out to be sailors.

I wonder why a top of the line yacht like this would have problems?

So these are two old farts that keep breaking their already dodgy dinghy every 3 weeks that haven't even managed to get out to international waters yet? Sounds like the kind of people that needs to be locked into a retirement home. What do they intend to do once they are in international waters?
