It's not a problem that requires more advanced math to do it. Yuqii and Cerilis and others gave reasonings that are accessible at any level. Though this might be a bit hard for a 2nd grader.

Scattered around the house are 100 nuts in 5 bowls.

1st and 2nd bowl together contain 48 nuts
2nd and 3rd bowl together contain 34 nuts
3rd and forth bowl together contain 30 nuts
4th and 5th bowl together contain 48 nuts

How many nuts are in each bowl?

Its almost her bed time someone plz hurry lol
    Bowl 1 contains 18
    Bowl 2 contains 30
    Bowl 3 contains 4
    Bowl 4 contains 26
    Bowl 5 contains 22

    18+30=48 nuts 30+4=34 nuts 4+26=30 nuts 26+22= 48 nuts for a total of 100 nuts...

What precisely is your problem with this? Do you have a disagreement with word problems?

Secondly this...Reads like gibberish and I was always good with word problems as a kid.

Then again common core mixed with an honestly horrific and scatterred education will make this stuff look complex

And not gibberish per se more like no idea how to solve it

I don't see anything complex with the way the OP worded it.

2nd and 3rd bowl together contain 34 nuts and 4th and 5th together contain 48 nuts, so 1st bowl contains 100-34-48=18 nuts.
Then 2nd bowl contains 48-18=30 nuts.
    3rd bowl contains 34-30=4 nuts...
    And so on.

As far as I'm aware, most issues people have with common core are not actually with the standards themselves, but with how they're implemented.

I don't want to do it but its juat a lot of algebra. Seems impossible but it isn't, just tedious. I always thought that these type of problem are what make kids hate math.

Common core's math isn't intuitive at all for most people. It's a specific way of thinking someone in charge of implementing it thinks everyone shares, but most people do not.

I like to think in blocks when I do math, so I can follow it pretty easy. But I tried to explain how I do math to a friend once and her eyes glazed over and she asked me how the fuck I could calculate like that.
