Character customization tips:
1. Make sure to include your MMOC user name in the 'Nickname' option. For first- and lastname don't use your real name, use a pseudonym (you're going to create one character that represents you).
2. Take note of the options on how your character will appear in the game.
Soldier Class
Rookie: your character will be randomly assigned a class when recruited.
Class-specific: your character will only appear as the class selected, this character can't be randomly recruited and must be found as a mission reward.
Spawn logic
Can Appear as Soldier: Determines whether this character can appear as a soldier or not.
Can Appear as VIP: Determines whether the character can appear as an mission reward or escort mission. Note: a character spawned as a 'VIP' can be either a soldier or scientist/engineer. (needs confirmation)
Can Appear as Dark VIP: Determines whether the character can appear as an enemy collaborator or not. Note: a character spawned as a 'Dark VIP' will be an enemy that either has to be captured or killed. (needs confirmation)
3. You can use the 'Biography' option to describe the character's beliefs and attitude, but also anything else that might be relevant or fun to know to act as an optional guideline for what kind of character this is.
How to submit your character to the pool:
1. Create your character with the 'Create Character' option in the 'Character Pool' option in the menu screen.
2. In the 'Character Pool' list your character should now appear, go ahead and select it (click the checkbox on the character) and go 'Export Selection'.
3. You will now be directed to the 'Importable Pools' list, go ahead and create a new pool with 'Create New Pool' (preferrably named the same as your username on MMOC).
4. Click on your newly created character pool and import your character to it.
5. Now go to x:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\MyGames\XCOM2\XComGame\CharacterPool\Importable
6. A .bin file with the name of the pool you created will be found here, this is the file you want to upload & share.
7. Upload this file to any file sharing site, e.g. Google Drive (requires registration) or Wikisend (requires no registration).
8. Post your file upload link in this thread or send me a PM, I will download your file and merge it to the consolidated character pool of MMOC users.
How to download & use the MMOC user character pool:
1. Download this file, 'MMOC.bin'.
2. Move the 'MMOC.bin' file to x:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\MyGames\XCOM2\XComGame\CharacterPool\Importable
3. Start XCOM 2.
4. Go into 'Character Pool' and click 'Import Character'.
5. The 'MMOC' pool should show up, select it and a list of all MMOC user characters should appear.
6. Choose 'Import Entire Pool' to import all characters, or select manually the characters you want.
(Optional) Changing how and when custom soldiers spawn:
1. Go to x:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\MyGames\XCOM2\XComGame\Config
2. Open 'XComGameData.ini'.
3. Search for (CTRL+F) 'character'.
4. There will be two lines of code that determine the spawning of characters:
Code:
InitialSoldiersCharacterPoolSelectionMode=eCPSM_Mixed
(this controls spawn logic for recruited soldiers)
Code:
RewardUnitCharacterSelectionMode=eCPSM_Mixed
(this controls spawn logic for rewarded characters)
5. There are three possible values for these two lines of code: Mixed, RandomOnly and PoolOnly.
6. You want to change the two lines of codes from Mixed to PoolOnly to prioritize custom characters over randomly generated characters.
7. The two lines of code should look like this if done correctly:
Code:
InitialSoldiersCharacterPoolSelectionMode=eCPSM_PoolOnly
RewardUnitCharacterSelectionMode=eCPSM_PoolOnly
Note: In the default setting (Mixed) there will be no preference for spawning custom characters, meaning random characters are just as likely to spawn as custom ones.
You can customize these two lines however you want, e.g. if you don't want custom characters to be able to show up as rewarded characters then edit the second line of code from PoolOnly to Random Only (note that this might prevent some characters that only spawn as reward characters from spawning at all).
tl;dr edition
"I want to join the pool but..."
If you don't have XCOM 2, or don't want to go through all that hassle, then write down a short summary of your character instead and I will attempt to re-create your character for the MMOC character pool.
Make sure to include:
* Nickname, gender and nationality.
* Soldier or non-combat role.
* General appearance, attitude and color scheme.
