‘Saw: Legacy’ Continues at Lionsgate with ‘Sorority Row’ Writers

“Would you like to play a game?”

If just reading that conjures an immediate sense of dread, you’re not alone. And if Lionsgate has anything to say about it, it’s about to make moviegoers terrified once again as the studio will continue its massively successful “Saw” franchise with “Saw: Legacy,” the eighth film in the horror series that began in 2004.

While there are no details on whether the new installment is a sequel or a reboot, “Sorority Row” and “Piranha 3DD” screenwriters Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger have been hired to write the script, according to The Tracking Board. Joining them as executive producers on the project are the director and writer of the first “Saw,” James Wan and Leigh Whannell.

Rather see another Friday the 13th than this crap. I watched the first one in the theater and have seen bits and pieces of other ones but that series really wasn't my thing.

It actually had a decent story if you held out and watched them all. Most people have the wrong idea about them.

Why, exactly, are these movies still being made?

I assume because they think it'll make a lot of movie.

But like, why, for the sake of any... say, artistic merit, are they still being made?

Known IPs sell. Horror (and torture porn,) is fairly cheap to make. That means the
cash flows readily. There's basically no artistic reasons to do it.

Saw has a long way to go before it runs out of ideas though. It still needs to take place in the future and in space.

I have not seen any of the sequel parade after Saw 1. I just assumed they were rubbish. The first one is a genuinely good film though, and isn't gore porn at all despite its reputation. It was far from perfect (side plot with the cop chasing Jigsaw is clearly the weakest part) but it was very effective and minimalist, and had a tight little concept. Loved the twist at the end with the guy on the floor.

But like so many horror movies it's doomed to be sequelled to death, because hey they're cheap to make and people will continue to watch the damn things.

Maybe the Jigsaw puppet will become possessed with his ghost or something too.

I liked the first saw somewhat. The 2 after that were just garbage, so I didn't waste my time with any beyond that. Never even heard of Sorority Row, but it sounds like one of those cheesy knock-off slasher flicks from the 80s.

Wow, I am amazed to see people thrashing saw. I have always thought it was a work of genius. The story always made me go wtf as the events unfolded. And it is not some mindless killing. It has a great story. Plot twists. Lots of gore. I will definitely watch if they make another saw movie. Watched all of them. Never regretted.
