I am very well aware that going at it like this leaves only one way out: Total Annihilation.
Because we care when innocent people in our countries die. Terrorists go out of their way to make that happen, both in other countries and in the countries they inhabit.

like the Allies did with Nazi Germany and Japan
The German and Japanese governments surrendered. They were not engaging in terrorist activities to resist brutal occupation. (Well, Germany is another story) The French government surrendered in WW2, but then the French resistance began. Because what else are you going to do, when you're being occupied, and you and your children are being victimized on a massive scale? You're going to fight back. You don't have a choice. What do you expect them to do? THEY FUCKING LIVE THERE. They aren't going to move. Ever.

What's the correct number of Iraqis we'd have to kill to make them "surrender" again, and stop fighting back against their current occupation? All of them. Same for every country in the region.

We're already killing massive numbers of civilians with airstrikes, it's not having the desired effect. When an innocent civilian dies, it makes people want to fight back.

And when Egyptians and Turks start to be upset about our indiscriminate widespread slaughter, we'll just kill them too! And the Indians and Etheopians! And the Hungarians! And the Italians and Ukranians! And the French and English too!

    Just. kill. them. all.

Don't kid yourself, Canada spent more time on the front lines of both wars and WW2 in particular, we were a much more significant role player in defeating the Germans than most other countries.

so what's the alternative then? clearly the way things are handled right now don't work

it's easy to criticize those who try to come up with a solution, but where is yours?

if you wanna continue wasting resources and manpower on that shithole of a region, then continuing to do things like they're done now is the way to go

if you withdraw, they have free reign

so they need to be taught a lesson they'll never forget, you don't have to use nuclear weapons, but our game needs to be stepped up, big time

Indiscriminately killing and brutalizing the native population, which you seem to be espousing, is not the current goal.

that's already being done on a daily basis, by all parties involved, we just call them collateral damage

but not enough to change things for the better in the long run, just enough to piss them off and keep them angry

however we don't want them angry, we want them shattered

sometimes you gotta destroy first, before you can create

I'm sure the Western World will go to war with each other over bombing more Middle Easterners.

That's our favorite pastime at this point.
