    Illegal immigrants and subsidized housing.

    http://www.sentinelandenterprise.com...ive-subsidized

When local housing directors review applications for subsidized public housing, they give preference to U.S. veterans, the elderly, and those with a disability.

But if an American citizen applies for an apartment at the same time as an illegal immigrant, the applicant who is here legally is given no preference in many cases.

Some think that needs to change.

In Massachusetts there are about 46,500 state-subsidized units and 37,000 federally subsidized units of public housing. While applicants for federal units are required to show proof of citizenship or legal immigration status to local housing authorities, they do not have to present the same proof when applying for state-subsidized units.

A group of lawmakers has been pushing legislation for several years that would require applicants to show their citizenship or immigration status at state-subsidized developments, as well.
I hate the idea that Americans in need could be passed over for housing aid simply because the government doesn't see fit to confirm citizenship
    in the application process.

In a world where our identity is constantly being validated in every aspect of our daily lives its utterly atrocious that our government cant do the same.

We have a hard enough time taking care of our own.

How can we possibly accomplish the goal when we're also taking care of millions of people who have no right to be in our country?

Citizenship verification needs to be explicitly required in all areas of importance including housing, banking, employment, telecom, insurance, health care, education, and any any other similar aspect of society.

You could start with deporting illegal immigrants

The only people who have the right to be in your country are native Indians.

Illegals will get every thing and Americans will get nothing, it's inevitable. They should've had this policy before, would've helped a lot of my family member out.

    In before the lock.

It's stupid this is going on, but is going to be a slow process to fix when so much cheap labor is available because of those illegals.

They are Americans if they were born here. Native Americans from Canada or Central America still need to obey border laws. Nobody is above the law.

You can't deport illegal immigrants, the problem is far too large for that to be a solution and besides it's inhumane to do so.

Instead there needs to be an enforcement on citizen rights and an amendment on birthright citizenship.

Illegal immigrants should be able to work, they should pay taxes, they should be able own property, get a driving licence and live their lives without fear of being arrested and deported.

But they should never be allowed to become a citizen of that country, and nor should their children. They should never be allowed to claim social security, never be allowed to claim for healthcare, never be allowed a passport and never be allowed to vote.

If they want these things then they can leave, apply and return legally like other people do.

Why are people so focused on the illegal immigrants and not the people who employ them and help them evade INS.

People in need are going to go where they can find solice is regardless of any laws, rules, and/or regulations. All the Republicans who want to clamp down on illegal immigration knows a guy who knows a guy (if the politician isn't involved in the game them self) that benefits from employing illegal immigrants. Didn't the frontrunner of the GOP admit to hiring undocumented workers, I think its the one who wants to build the wall.

The illegal immigration issue could be greatly reduced if the systems already in place were allowed to operate without internal corruption.

Illegal immigrants pay taxes and generally support themselves. They want jobs, they are economic refugees.

And the referenced article in the OP doesn't look legit.

Scary, isn't it? Though America isn't alone - Europe shows a similar level of contempt for the native population whilst bending over backwards to accommodate illegal immigrants, refugees and economic migrants. At least when they're from certain parts of the world.

Solving the illegal immigrant problem absolute involves harsh punishment for those who enable their infestation.

Employers, service providers, and government officials who enable illegals to live in America should be subjected to jail time and high fines.

We cant go door to door hunting down illegals.

We have to drive them out.

Deporting an illegal workforce cripples the economy? Interesting.

I didn't realize that illegal labor forces were so critical to the American economy? Maybe we should prosecute people who are illegally breaking labor laws in this country instead...?

    Source shaming is low brow.

Its a legitimate long standing local paper from the state where a Bill regarding the topic at hand originated.

This plague of ignorance regarding dismissing sources that report on things opposite of a persons political confirmation bias needs to end.

And if you don't mind would you please tell me what about it gave the impression it wasn't "legit".

It was the fact that it was critical of illegal immigration, right?

Never mind don't answer, I know that's the exact reason.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentinel_%26_Enterprise

The Sentinel & Enterprise is a morning daily newspaper published in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, with a satellite news bureau in Leominster, Massachusetts. The newspaper covers local news in Fitchburg, Leominster and several nearby towns in northern Worcester County and northwest Middlesex County, Massachusetts. It is one of four Massachusetts newspapers owned by MediaNews Group of Colorado.

The main competitors to the Sentinel & Enterprise are the county's largest daily, the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester; on the west, The Gardner News; and on the east, Nashoba Publishing weeklies and The Sun of Lowell, also owned by MediaNews.

Formed in 1973 by the merger of two newspapers covering adjacent cities, the daily traces its lineage back to the Fitchburg Sentinel (founded 1838) and Leominster Enterprise (1873).

In the 1980s, the paper was known as the Fitchburg-Leominster Sentinel & Enterprise, and published only six days a week, Monday through Saturday, in the afternoon. In the later years of this arrangement, the Saturday paper was published in the morning and called the "weekend edition." In 1990, the Sentinel & Enterprise debuted a Sunday morning edition. The weekday papers remained afternoon publications.

By 1997, the Sentinel & Enterprise had switched to seven-day morning publication. Its longtime owner, Thomson Corporation, as part of a nationwide divestment of small-market newspapers, sold the Fitchburg paper to MediaNews. No price was released in the transaction between two private companies. Average circulation was given at the time of sale as 19,640, daily, and 20,087 on Sunday.

Following MediaNews' purchase of The Sun and Nashoba Publications weeklies covering several towns between Lowell and Leominster, the company in 2002 consolidated printing for all of these properties at a new $7 million press plant in Devens, Massachusetts. The move was said to have a beneficial effect on traffic in downtown Fitchburg and Lowell.
