Last I checked there were five Pirates movies, and at no point was it a "trilogy", just a movie, then a sequel, then a sequel, then a sequel, then a sequel. You know.

Well it "figuratively" had a Trilogy. The first 3 movies were the William Turner Trilogy. Based around him, the Black Pearl, Davy Jones, Bootstrap and Sparrow.

4 onward is different stories in the same universe.

Lol I don't think it's that way at all. It's stuffy old people who vote based on what they like. It's not like whoever wins the Oscar gets a huge boost of money for it. There was a big study on money made by Oscar winning movies awhile back and they didn't profit hardly at all more after winning.
