North Korea has developed miniaturised nuclear warheads which can be mounted on ballistic missiles, the country's leader Kim Jong-un has claimed.

North Korean state media has said before that nuclear warheads have been miniaturised, but this is the first time Mr Kim has been quoted directly.

The validity of the country's nuclear boasts has been widely questioned.

The notoriously secretive state said it detonated a hydrogen bomb in January, but experts dispute the claim.

Is this bluster, Pyongyang-style? Yes. North Korea is not planning to launch nukes at this moment.
But the regime of Kim Jong Un looks ready to strike at its neighbors or the U.S., and a strike could trigger conflict on the Korean peninsula and beyond.
