You'd be suprised nixx. There is one guy on AR15.com who has mastered the art of taking a Ruger 10/22 (basically a cheap 22 caliber rifle)and retrofitting it to look like something completely different. Granted he was re-making them into bigger and badder looking weaponry, be amazed what someone can do with airsoft plastic shells.

Examples of his work in retro-fitting a .22LR rifle into these airsoft "50BMG" rifle toys;



To give you an idea, here is what a REAL .50BMG catridge looks like nice to a .22LR:

Ok so the answer is this;

The fake one is on the left, the real one on the right.

The main give a way is the crown of the barrel, on the fake one you can see inward threads, this is generally where the orange tip screws in.
