How did good old Winston Churchill put it again?

"I never believe in statistics, unless I forged them myself."

As I alluded earlier, it's an important first step. But it isn't cause to pop the champagne and celebrate. The problem isn't "fixed". It isn't even that we've stopped making it worse; we are. We've stopped accelerating how quickly we're making it worse.

If the environment's a car, then the global temperature average is the speed. We're still accelerating. We're just accelerating at a more-or-less constant pace, now, rather than increasingly rapidly. We haven't stopped accelerating, let alone trying to reduce speed.

I am not saying it is, but it is the first step, so it is good news. Its not the end of the race but it is like getting to the top of one of the big hills in the race.
