    MREs

Have you had MREs before? Which one is your favorite? Back when I was in the army my favorite was the chow mein. I bought a couple of the new ones at a surplus store the other day and haven't tried them yet. For those who dont' know.

Why would I eat that unless I was really desperate? I have standards.

The most common reason to eat MREs is that's what the military gives you in the field and when on deployment in a combat zone. Also they're good for camping.

I've been camping lots. Way more fun to cook your own food like a real man.

Some meatballs and baked beans boil in the bag thing. Biscuits brown and biscuits fruit. boiled sweets.

Think it was "Menu 4" out of the 6 available. There was other stuff in there, but I don't regret stashing a tin of rice pudding as well. CCF was pretty jolly, what

The old Chicken Ala King. Not because of the chicken, but because there was a packet of M&Ms in it.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

They're not bad. I had a whole box of them once that I got for 10 dollars from some armory surplus sale thing some national guard armory had. People bitch about MREs like they bitch about most other things; because they think it makes them look hip to just shit on something socially considered low quality.

I was always a fan of the teriyaki chicken and the chillimac

Had them before, not bad during ice storm to have hot food.

Yeah they're great in a power outage too.

But they are low quality in the aspect most people care about (taste). nothing to do with being hip, it's just a fact that taste goes out the window under the requirements a MRE has.

They're made for functionality and not really taste. Designed to give soldiers calories. Some of them do taste pretty good though.

I tried a few. They taste like... mushy microwaved meals. Like TV dinners, basically.

Went on a field trip many moons ago to the local airbase. Part of the experience was trying MREs and I got the Bean Burrito one IIRC, which sounded okay to me and the guy (solider) who was leading us told me it was one of his favorites too. Tried it.

    Never again. Blech.
